rmaynard 15,927 #1 Posted June 14, 2022 What is the best way that you have found to keep the plug wire from slipping out of the magneto coil?
peter lena 9,092 #2 Posted June 14, 2022 @rmaynard what does the initial wire mount spot look like ? not familiar with it , pete

Then it goes over to the coil and into the coil over the internal pin. The hole is 11/16" deep. At this point, there is nothing to hold the wire to keep it from pulling back out or vibrating lose. WHX?? 50,775 #4 Posted June 14, 2022 I would try some sort of silicone Bob. Thin coat around the lead then a filet around the outside?
peter lena 9,092 #5 Posted June 14, 2022 @rmaynard was going to suggest getting another unit , think over time cracking / shorting etc , has cought up with it. might even be cracked in the epoxy base starting area. @ WHX might have the idea. pete

WHX?? 50,775 #7 Posted June 14, 2022 I was going to suggest epoxy but what if it ever had to come out?

Clean up both sides as best possible. Make sure for good adhesion as best you can. Silicone should be able to hold that in there for the most part provided there's no serious mechanical difficulties. And.... You could carefully remove it if you needed to unlike a hardened holder of some sort
rmaynard 15,927 #9 Posted June 15, 2022 I like the silicone idea. If it's tough enough to hold a brake lining in place, holding a simple wire should be a no-brainer. The issue would be if my new plug wire was made of silicone already. Silicone doesn't easily stick to silicone.

Shouldn't be a ton of vibration or heat there. What motor is that Bob? 161 pull start perhaps?

953 nut 57,990 #13 Posted June 15, 2022 Is there room enough to put a terminal on the wire's end?
rmaynard 15,927 #14 Posted June 16, 2022 I think I've come up with a solution (a clamp). Will post pictures soon.
wallfish 17,507 #15 Posted June 16, 2022 epoxy . Most are held in with epoxy like the Tecumseh coils. Same for the little O&R engines I have. There shouldn't be a need to remove it but the epoxy only sticks to the outer insulation and they can be pulled out by force if need be but it will hold it in there and survive vibration and tugs on it. I've replaced quite a few wires on the O&R engine coils. They get damaged because they're exposed
