Fox Go-Cart Subaru engine

So my neighbor has been wanting me to try and get a go cart running… been sitting outside for years… not good…

Gas tank had major rust… took it off to clean it, and the tank has a big rust hole.

You just can’t let equipment sit outside…

I guess he’ll be buying a tank.

Got her running though.

Carb bowl was full of rust too …

Air filter had turned to dust… I had to vacuum the air cleaner out to keep it from crumbling and falling down into the carb…

Some folks just don't get it. Same folks that would ask why the Unidrive is full of water...

It keeps the small engine repair shops busy though

I had 5 hp briggs in the shop, the water rusted the intake valve stem to the guid and the owner tried to start it snapped off the lifter and scared the cam a little. Of course I had to get used parts new ones NLA.

go figure.

They must of pulled like a gorilla on the rope?

We were at a slick track last night and there were a lot of rough wrecks.  Our last go round, getting strapped in, I noticed the “mechanic” tugging on the rope.  He was lifting the kart off the ground pulling so hard but it wasn’t budging.   Might have something to do with the left rear being wedged into the back of the seat?  I’m wondering if the hit cracked something like the engine case?

Exactly… that’s a big motivator for me to mess with it.

So the more I look at the go cart, the more knackered up things I find… gonna take a little work before my first ride !

The right side steering arm was bent, tie rods were way out of adjustment causing the front tires to point outward. The jam nuts on the tie rod ends were not snug.
So I straightened out the steering arm best I could in a vise, using an adjustable wrench and a 2 lb BAH.

The heim joint ends were about rusted in place so I worked them with WD-40 to loosen them up and greased them with bearing grease. Used Valvoline , not the Lucas good stuff- saving that for the Horses… although I will probably grease the wheel spindles and front wheel bearings with the Lucas since it’s already in the grease gun.

I really should get a go kart...  would be rather useful 'round here... :)

'cept... I don't really need one... I've got 4+ tractors, an electric golf cart... and 2 legs... :P

Oh well... I can dream can't I...? :D

Me too.  My new neighbor and his kid would get a kick out of it... and he's got the acreage to make a nice circle track.

Thinking something with a Hyabusa engine on it.

Kart probably wouldn't work too well though, need bigger tahrs, like a sand rail.

Take the "Good Enough" approach on this one - not worth much effort - Any charity work will end up the same as you found it if the owner treats it the same way again. Watched a So-Cal Car Club documentary a few years ago  - the banner hung in the Garage said " If you have no pride in your ride, leave it outside". They appreciated all their toys...
