eibbed 63 #26 Posted June 12, 2022 Gentlemen, We have had this mower since 2003 and really have not had many issues (knock on wood) with it except for the PTO family. David always kept it maintenanced and I do try to do the same. Doc, you mentioned the switch under the seat. I do not have this switch. The seat is wired for the safety switch, but that is all. I did order a Toro OEM PTO switch and I should have it by the end of this week. I will let you know the results. In the mean time I will figure out how to use the multimeter and check the wiring. The white wire on pin 2 goes to the PTO light on the dash. My money is on a loose connection somewhere. During the course of changing the belt something was dislodged, loosened, bumped, whatever... if something works before, and not after, it's always best to carefully retrace ones steps and look everywhere that they touched. The BLACK goes on GROUND (the negative terminal of the battery is a good place.) The RED lead will be what you 'probe' with. Set the meter for " DC VOLTS " or maybe " DCV " (if you post a picture of the meter it will help us help you with the exact settings) With the meter set to DC Volts, and the black lead on ground, measure for 12 V on the brown wire when the PTO is engaged. If your test leads have 'pin probes' on them, you should be able to stick it into the back side of the PTO switch connector without having to unplug the connector from the switch. Precisely. Could be from merely changing the belt, or when the belt grenaded... Just because something LOOKS sound, doesn't always mean that it is. I even like to take connectors off, and give the wires on them a little tug just to make sure. eibbed 63 #31 Posted June 13, 2022 Now that I have somewhat of an idea to use the multimeter, I will check the wiring tomorrow. I have a Cen-Tech 7 function digital multimeter and it does have the pin probes. It does show DCV with numbers 200m 2000m 20 200 1000 I'm not sure which number to set it on. I checked the connection to the pto clutch and it was fine and the other connections to the mower. But I will recheck everything tomorrow. By setting it to 20 you can measure between 0 and 20 Volts. Good for measuring 12 Volts. The ones that say "m" are MILLIvolts. VERY small voltages. There are 1000 millivolts to a volt. The 2000m scale would allow you to measure between 0 and 2000 millivolts which is actually 2 Volts. Useful for checking flashlight batteries and such. We only had a week or so of Spring and it looks like Summer is here I am not a fan of the heat or humidity so it may be a bit before I get out in the garage. I will keep you posted what I find out. eibbed 63 #37 Posted June 18, 2022 Gentlemen, I have awesome news. My 520xi is up and running!! I finally had a day where it didn't feel like 110 outside. We had a cool front move in for today and tomorrow. 85 degrees. I'll take it!! I received the new PTO switch. Plugged it in and it did not work. I rechecked all the connections to the PTO clutch and VOILA, I found one connection I apparently overlooked. Snapped it back together and it was a Thank You Jesus moment!! The new PTO switch does works so I will put it aside in case I ever need one. I was able to cut my lawn today and it was ready. Hooray!! I have a wonderful neighbor who is seventy and has cancer and he helped me. (He loves to cut grass and he has a John Deere. But I don't hold this against him. LOL!!) I am truly blessed to have wonderful neighbors. And I feel I have found wonderful friendships on this forum. Thank you to everyone for all of your advise and schematic diagrams.
