cerial 7 #1 Posted June 11, 2022 I have a 78 161c I been fighting with and I want to repower it asap. I want to make this thing stupid simple. No battery, no starter, and retain a manual pto clutch or no clutch at all. Just have the blades or snowblower turning when the engine is rotating. I been looking at the 15.8hp 459 and it looks like good bang for buck. I can fabricate and make it fit. But that clutch is a bit of a concern. Now I would almost perfer to run this direct without a pto and if need be modify the current pulley to fit onto the shaft. Seeking a bit of advise here. As far as longevity I would be happy if the $500 engine lasted 3 years being used around 4 hours a month.

bds1984 1,457 #3 Posted June 11, 2022 That Predator engine has ball bearings on the crankshaft so it should be able to utilize the manual PTO of the C161. I definitely would NOT set up any tractor without a way to cut power to the attachment it is powering. 6
Pullstart 63,316 #4 Posted June 11, 2022 What’s up with the other engine, or cause for repower?
cerial 7 #5 Posted June 11, 2022 Other engine(18hp opposed briggs 01ish ) has a bad governor. I have played with and adjusted around it as much as I can. But to get to that govener the engine needs to get tore down and parts for a opposed briggs are like unobtanium. Going to take my time repowering the 161 with the 459. Will use the manual pto. In the meantime I grabbed a cheap 90's 13-38XL for $300. 5 speed, fairly clean, and been gone over with newer battery fuel lines etc.
