Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner....es that's generally where those vents are located in the opening to the venturi, thru a metered brass insert.  I've been looking in my shop/s to look at that style carburetor, but I had none,  Strange that yours appears to be blocked off.  but I usually remove the welch plug when cleaning, as it's not difficult while it's in your hand, compared to after it's together back on the machine.   As far as a welch plug assortment??  I like to stock what I can. as I do all small engine work... But; as others have said, it's more clutter, that you can never find when you really need it.  Although since you have a collection of those carbs, it ma be worth having s couple of those plugs in your carb parts junk box.  

 

And as far as the ultrasonic cleaners, I waited a long time to get one, and now wonder why I waited soooo long.  I did a lot of research on them as well as soaps/cleaners.  I wanted a big enough unit to do more than carbs, but that significantly raised the prices, as size and heat setting options will.  But I found a guy on FB selling a 30L unit.  said it did not work, although was "New", but was only $50.  Couldn't really pass on it.  Come to find out, he was the second owner, who bought it from the original owner, broken as well.  The original owner paid $500 from the jungle site.  He didn't open it for a year, and when it didnt work, he missed the return window,  So they started passing the buck.   I gambled on the $50 purchase, took it apart and found out the on/off switch was wired incorrectly in Taiwan.  Moved a couple of wires around and Bingo!!  Worx great!!  I  use it for carbs engine parts, and anything else that needs a general cleaning.

I'll break apart a piece of chassis wiring and use the individual piece of wire to give it a poke. Perhaps it's just well clogged. 

This engine seems happy and the carb wants to work. I'd like to keep trying a few things as (lack of) time permits.

Been thinking on getting this tractor running for @JCM Jim's Meet n Greet in September. 

I've had the carb soaking in lacquer thinner in the ultrasonic cleaner for a few days. ( I kinda forgot about it) 

 

This afternoon I commenced to spraying brake clean. 

 

I used a small portion of one can, a half of another can, and a whole can. 

Near as I can figure that's about 1.6 cans give or take. 

I sprayed the carb 7 ways to Sunday and back again. That should be about 49 ways. 

Carry the 8. Add the 3. 

I'm thinking it's fairly well clean. 

 

I still need to run some wicked tiny wires through a couple wicked tiny holes. 

Looks good though.

In fact I've had a K341 carb on this very engine. 

 

No adapter is needed from carb to engine. 

The changeover is from governor linkage to carb and also repositioning the choke linkage. 

 

These mid 70s Walbro  Big Block carbs aren't as unnecessarily complicated as some of Tecumseh's other... ideas. 

 

There are a few REALLY small metering orifices that I believe I've got cleansed now.

Got the carburetor parts all cleaned out as stated above and all spread out for reassembly. 

 

 

 

This afternoon The BBT aka Local Towing Service  pulled the C160-8 Tecumseh Horse up to the barn where all our tools now reside. 

 

 

 

We'll decide what fender pan & seat looks best and get that on. 

Fair list of other things to do as well.

Started disassembly today. 

Got the left side step off both the Bronco 14 and this C160-8. 

I'll clean up the surface of the step with no holes for this tractor and put new grip tape on it. 

 

There was an ancient non stock PO cable going to the rear hitch. It was too short and rusty so I cut that out. 

While fiddling around with the manual lift handle I noticed that the bolts were loose and worn out. One was missing completely. Two were overtightened in the past so there was a nut on the back. 

I replaced some with grade 8 or added hardened nuts/ washers. 

 

 

 

I was gonna leave the broken  steering wheel on but it got to me. Couldn't do it. 

Being already damaged I didn't mi d cutting the outer rubber/plastic off to see what I was up against. 

The roll pin came out with very little irritation. 

The wheel hub however.....

 

Any thoughts on this?

I’ve seen cracks in this area on heavily worked machines--always wondered if it was due to loose components of the lift mechanism putting unexpected strain on the hoodstand.

Your this far, I'd carefully cut a slit through one side of the hub to let it expand. Should slide right off then. If not, cut a slit on the other side and spit it apart.

I get them welded with reinforcement. They crack due to the twist/torque of lifting a heavy implement like dual stage snowblowers, garden scratchers and 12" plows still pulling in the dirt.
