We have been hauling vehicles up to Shetland all week so decided to head up to the showgrounds today for a look. A surprisingly large turnout of vehicles, and one lonesome wherlhorse - no sign of the owner though. The blue car is apparently worth several million. I did an image search on the hood ornament. Looks like an Armstrong Siddely ... never heard of that one, must have never been imported to US. That must be some sorta famous car because they made a die cast model of it... Interesting styling on those fenders. Yes the Bugatti, it's quite a beast, must be terrible to drive any distance. It's on the ship tonight heading back to the mainland, got a few more pictures. Luckily I took a picture of the green cars details - see below the Bugatti pictures. Had no idea it was so famous. We never tie the cars down, and spacing is due to the ships being a bit small now, they could do with being 40m longer as traffic has increased. So the hawker Sidley came onboard tonight and I managed to speak to the owner. The corgi model was made using his car as a template. It turns out they didn't ask permission to use the number plate etc, so he called them up about it. They apologised for not asking, and sent him a bunch of the models as an apology. The metal used was ww2 surplus from the hurricane factory that had been allocated for building fighter planes - so this car is basically a repurposed plane The huge air filter was to try and quiet down the induction noise, apparently unsuccessfully! I mentioned his car had peaked you guys interest, he was chuffed with that.
