@WildmanC120... C161 with Predator 22HP...

I took the old Briggs mounting plate and cut the angled pieces with the rubber mounts off each end.  I then placed it where I wanted it and drilled some new mounting holes.  This gave me something to mount the engine too.  This plate is literally as high as you can go otherwise the hood will hit and rest on the top of the engine.  I wish you could go a little higher but in the end it should work OK.  I will have to find some shorter belts to run the deck and snowblower i'm sure.

Trina's first Horse. 657 with a 1978 Briggs and Stratton 8 HP from my grampa's IHC Cub Cadet snowblower.

Here's a thread that shows a great before and after of all of her hard work on the first one.

You may indeed have to have an adapter plate if you plan to use the PTO function just to get everything aligned.

I'm thinking not since the GT xxxx used the same motor I've got.

I need to look over the IPLs for the GT models and compare to what I've got.  Seems the easiest way since it  doesn't seem anyone has done it already.

@cschannuth... 606 with Predator 212

On 4/21/2017 at 6:54 PM, cschannuth said:

I was sold on the 212cc Predator by my brother. You see, if it can survive my brother and his kids, it can survive anything. I'm very particular and a maintenance freak. He is neither of those things. He bought a small Baja branded Chinese dirt bike from Orschelns Farm and Home 5 or 6 years ago and it had the small Predator. They have run that poor thing to death and it has never had the oil checked or changed in its entire life. It's starts on the first pull every time and is still going strong.

Needless to say, when I came across an almost free 606 roller the Predator was an easy choice for me. It's easily my favorite tractor. I upsized the engine pulley and almost doubled the speed and it handles it with ease.

@Xjchief 606 with predator 212 swap

On 10/1/2013 at 10:16 PM, Xjchief said:

Swapped out the tired and broken tecumseh for the harbor freight 6.5hp predator. I know it seems kinda wrong to put a Chinese motor on an American tractor but it's a great option to get the tractor back to work. The swap was pretty easy, here are some pictures. Feel free to ask any specific questions if you are thinking about doing this.

I built the bumper earlier and just added a couple of angle iron tabs to the front of it to match up with the generator hanger. It works pretty well.

As far as I know no, very few engines can handle that side load.  Ball bearings do not per say mean they can handle that side load.

I was glad to see Lombardini having those specs in the manual, and I can say, it easily can handle those side loads. Although I will be most likely keep the centrifugal clutch on it for now.

Single cylinder cast iron Kohler's use deep groove ball bearings on the crank shaft, I'd imagine the Honda clones probably do too since the Honda GX singles do. The PTO load that the single cylinder Kohler's take isn't anything that any other engine with deep groove ball bearings can't take. I've read quite a few posts throughout this site with people saying you have to use the Kohler because it has thrust bearings, and that's flat out wrong, they're deep groove ball bearings.

Honda clones

I can't speak for predators or clone's you have over in the US, but here in Belgium and most of Europe. clone's do not come with ball bearings, and definitely not the deep groove ones you are talking about.

I'll throw in my input here. I have taken apart... let's just say... LOT'S of these newer engines.

Carroll Stream engines and Duromax engines have the best bearings for PTO applications in my opinion... "thrust bearings"

Predator engines here in the U.S. also do have some hearty ball bearings as @APG2 mentioned and can be used in PTO applications... although my personal preference would always be Carroll Stream or Duromax.

@Maxwell-8... you bring up a very good point. The other clone engines on the market (no name knock-offs) should be steered away from.

It is also important to note that Predator engine have gone through generational changes... as in the early days... the legality of clone engines was in question... (if they made clone engines too much like Honda... they would get into hot water)... but that changed greatly in 2nd and 3rd gen Predator Engines.

Many of ...what I will call "crappy clones" are still on the market today, unfortunately... and that causes a lot of snafus for a lot of people.

I had to raise it up a little, and had a spacer made. Just so it fits under the hood
