BPEisenhower 535 #1 Posted June 4, 2022 Hello all! Been busy with new career and finally enjoying what I am doing. Decided to celebrate by complicating things by buying an Allis Chalmers C that sat in a garage for the last 22 years. Motor was stuck but after a week of soaking with ATF, acetone and rubbing alcohol it broke free. I told the wife to be it was one of the smaller versions of Allis Chalmers and she now is convinced that I need my eyes checked. After comparing it next to the D21 she still isn't impressed. However, she is showing interest in mowing with it. Maybe if I offered a porterhouse dinner after she used it once, another little tractor could follow me home! Post more toys soon. Have a great day and be safe. Help thy neighbor and be blessed! 6
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #4 Posted June 5, 2022 Here is a good AC forum, if you're not a member already: https://www.allischalmers.com/forum/forums.html I almost bought a AC WD, but it was in far too rough of a shape and it needed rear tires. I also look at a B, which is the wide front version of the C. AC orange can grow on you. 2
squonk 41,118 #5 Posted June 5, 2022 My dad mowed his 2 acre lot with an old Craftsman. He said find me something bigger. Got him a 39 B hand crank start with a belly mower. Converted it to electric start. Sweet ride! 2

Hand crank Allis's are an "arm shattering trip to the emergency room" just waiting to happen. I'll turn the crank on most any engine, except for an Allis.

We have the collection starting with the B through the D21. There are plenty of Allis tractors out there and you will end up with at least 2 at some point!

At the time, that was a large tractor for most and designed for field work. Mowing a lawn is not over exertion and will last another 60 years!

LoL, I almost broke my arm years ago cranking my way. Dad showed me that I need to turn on the fuel, leaving the key off and putting the choke on full and half throttle. Then start with the crank at the 6 o'clock position and rotate to 9 o'clock position two times but never grasp the crank with a closed hand but cup it instead. Pretend you have no thumb. Turn on ignition and if mag is set correctly, it will start. Same way with the WD but it's got a spring loaded mechanism, but that's another chapter! I'm especially careful around the 9U Caterpillar D7, been thrown over the hood cranking it before 1

Now we park it on a hill or give it a tug to start it. Always thought about setting up an Allis C for a hot rod pulling tractor. Thought a good name for it would be "Cialis" .
squonk 41,118 #11 Posted June 6, 2022 Old crusty Allis tractors seem to dominate the stock pulling class at our steam show. I had to get a different center section for the B. 6v starter with a 12 v battery, solenoid and push button from Napa. Built a battery box. You barely touched that button and it was running! 1

I had to put it in text
