peter lena 8,589 #1 Posted June 4, 2022 @tmix61 referring to your spindle issue , bearing lubrication upgrade opportunity at your stage is simple , bearings are probably 6203 ( 3/4 ) shaft , also same bearings used in the mule drive belt pulleys , do yourself a favor , get some lucas x- tra heavy duty chassis grease , green and white tube , hi temp , 560 deg, anti sling and polyurea rated , stop bearing failure before it starts . new bearing , has wide rubber side shields, pocket flat screwdriver , carefully remove seals , wipe out " grease " flush with carb cleaner , repack same amount with lucas xtra heavy duty , do that to all related bearings , 6 on deck spindles and 2 on mule drive bearings . do not substitute this grease , it works , my 3 decks and related mule drives run quietly wit no failures or whining noise . you are going to be right there , in bearing replacement , btw those bearings commonly fit ceiling fans , would you trust that " grease", in a hi heat / stress operation? been there done that , go lucas , wallmart / auto parts . pete
ranger 1,748 #2 Posted June 4, 2022 Just bought 8 cartridges of this grease, will probably be using it from now on. Seen some ridiculous prices for this on ‘the bay’, I think I paid around £6 each, postage included, some I think were £40-£50 each???? Doug.
peter lena 8,589 #3 Posted June 4, 2022 @ranger glad you got the grease , really is a failure proof lubrication for heat and hi stress applications , when a bearing in use is whining its a lubrication related failure , usually hi heat stress, that 560 rating covers that , the anti sling keeps it in place and the polyurea rating ensures its return to base. that cost is rough , I paid 7 $ , recently for mine , glad to get it for that , picked up 4 tubes. every bearing in mower deck and mule drive , gets the change out , thats 8 bearings , also get the needle bearing , in the pto outer cone area, get some on the pto lever rod base movement areas , mine works very smooth and solid . good talking , thanks for the shout , anything else I might help with just ask , pete
