@Docwheelhorse nice pick up on that , glad you are getting after it , would be a great candidate for rislone zinc , rotella 30 wt , lubrication spray down on paint , just let it soak in , then rub down till dry , repeat , patina saved , pete

Retired Wrencher

Nothing like a big block Kohler eight speed Tony. Good job on the save.

@Docwheelhorse , picked up that 312-8  from you years ago, immediately started  on the recovery part , lubrication paint soak , all wiring upgrade , mechanical catch up . reference to the rislone zinc , in the oil , started noticing the coal black oil changes were really cleaning it up , engine was just running smoother / easier . today , its an instant starter . immediately settles down , no choke . no smoke . regular  trans oil changes , no noise or issues . eliminated and  changed chronic issues , been a solid runner , fuel line check valve just before carb , paint palm buffed out , to a deep clean shine , have the same set up , problem stopping changes in my 3 horses . rotella # 30 and rislone zinc , engine runs very strong , just letting you know , pete

Rotella 30 weight is a diesel oil and has nearly 1,000 PPM of ZDDP, if you add too much it can become acidic, there is a correct amount and you should not add very much, if any.

@lynnmor  was recently at a shed with work horses and wheel horses in it , typical junk , every gear box was water and rust filled , tires were  all shot , seats junk batteries dead , he wanted top money because they were horses . engine oil was barely on the stick on all of them . looked like a money pit to me , referring to the rotella  oil , and the rislone zinc additive . reading the back of the bottle gives you the amount to use , I  use a measuring cup , have it in all my small engines, my generator runs at 3600 rpm , with no issues. the typical neglect I  see and the idea that i might be damaging my engines with added zinc , is not even on the scope . i also use overkill grease , more than 40 years now , thanks for the advise , pete
