What can a mid-mount grader blade do on a Wheelhorse?

This year's project of building an entire new garden area from scratch has been going very well. 

We had 10 yds of loam delivered a few weeks ago. 

We've been moving it several hundred feet with Trina's 867 hauling her 1976/77 Ohio Steel 10 cubic foot trailer and my '74 C160-8 Cinnamon Horse with a 17 cubic foot trailer.  We load them a little more than 1/2 full so they're easier to hand dump. There's maybe 1/4 of the initial pile left.

I have a homemade mid mount grader that came with the ‘84 Work Horse that I need to put on and see how the builder fabricated  it to hook to the lift mechanism.

Awesome stuff EB!  It would have been great to bury some dead and down logs u def all that dirt, to feed the soil.

Wonder if i could sneak even a small one under Dug's FEL subframe and utilize the old hydraulic deck lift??? While the end loader can do most of the dragging and grading,  there are times where a mid mount especially if ya could lower one end a bit more than the other would be the shiznizzle for finishing up!

You "need" both. 😀

They really do have different performance characteristics.

There's a BUNCH of organic material mixed in with the dirt the excavator laid out. 

That was the existing soil from where it lies. There were some smaller trees in there, branches, and a nice layer of tall thick grass. Should be an excellent plant growth mix.

Not a typical mid-mount, but it has some wheels behind it so..

My setup doesn't have the weight, that you would have when mounted under a tractor, sure makes it a bit harder to level nicely. Also the handle is behind me, which is hard to reach.

Maybe you would be better off with something like @Maxwell-8?  With the loader frame, how much room do you have to work and maneuver over potholes, rocks, etc?

Not much! When i redo the tires etc maybe 6 to 8 inches. Maybe a little tiltable finish blade on the front of the subframe? Just something to do that last little bit and even up when the lay of the land wont allow the bucket at the angle your looking for. Straight leveling when yer tires are level , the bucket works great.but if ya tilt one way or the other and wanna just knock down the high side of a narrow trail a tiltable blade would be a nice addituon to the loader and hoe.

Grader blades work ok but WH models are too light. I have an Allis Chalmers mid grader. All iron, about 50 lbs heavier and are simple to adapt to the mid tach o matic Here is one I used on a 704. Big pile of topsoil.

Agreed. Trina and I have a very very worn out Ferguson tractor with a loader that just about works.

We've been mulling over whether we should put some money into rebuilding it, or do something on a smaller tractor which would be more maneuverable for us.

As much as I love my loader on my 1277, the loader on a Ferguson with the ability to lift more and higher would be pretty apealling.

Absolutely agreed.  

This one won't be worked on much this year because of lack of time. 

I'd like to at least get it running and occasionally use it.

I have a homemade mid mount (attaches to the mid-mount Attach-a-matic bracket) grader blade that come with the 1984 Work Horse GT-1600.

The Work Horse has a manual lift, so I was wondering if the homemade grader blade would work with the 1994 520H ?

I have parked the two tractors side by side and the frames appear to be the same length.

And it looks like the lift bars underneath both are the same… both with a 3/8ths-1/2 inch pin coming out at the front of the bar that hooks to a mower deck, grader blade, or whatever.

Do any of you fellows know right offhand if the grader blade would work on both ?

Guess it’s time to pull out the tape measure…
