I got my license in August 1987 and at that point most muscle cars and high-powered pickup trucks were considered rusty old gas guzzling pieces of junk that most people didn't want.

 

Back around 1992 or 93 I knew what fella that had a GT350 Mustang, GT500 Mustang, 88? GTA Trans Am,  a McLaren Mustang from around 1987, a 1964 Mustang convertible...

 

ALL at the same time !!!!

 

The GT350, GT500, and the McLaren, were all hand built frame off, body on rotisserie, full restorations done by him. The others I'm not sure.

 

Can't even begin to imagine the value of such a collection in today's market.

 

 

Like many of us, back then I had the chance to get a hold of a whole pile of cars I wish I had today.

Cool memories.....

Hehehe.  

That's okay man. I nearly caught up to you by the time I was about 21.

I used to buy and sell pieces parts and whole cars of 1974 and up Camaros back then.

When I was your age you were lucky if a car would live to see 50,000 miles. Did have a 47 Cheby with about 60,000 on it in 1965.

Had a couple of 1971-1973 Vegas - the joke was always NOT to put the hair pin clips back in the hood hinges once it was off to change an engine - made it easier for the next go-round about 8 months later...until the later sleeved engines in 1976 or so came out...

Our general train of thought was when something had about 90, 100K you were really pushing it. 120, 130k was just plain worn out.

That was made a lot easier by dropping a slightly warmed up 350 in there.....

Even a Kohler k341 would have even been an improvement on horse power. Not to mention reliability. :D

@cafoose my first car was a 37 graham Paige , next one was a 40 Buick super  , also blew up my fathers  51 Plymouth  while I  was at it , just sayin , greasy pete

Only one , I am a rocket scientist so my second POS was a 1953 POS Chrysler with a clutch less trans for 2 and 3 gears. Clutch only used for first and reverse. I hated that ugly green pos.  Rolled and crinkled the whole exterior the weekend after Jr. prom.
