WheelHorse520H 708 #1 Posted May 31, 2022 Okay, this may seem a bit strange and may not even be possible. I want to put a centrifugal clutch or torque converter on my 607. This is odd, but because it has a predator 212 in it and no belt guard. This is just a temporary setup until I can find the correct belt guard. Which is better for this application, centrifugal clutch or torque converter? Is this even a good idea? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Pullstart 63,205 #2 Posted May 31, 2022 Could you make a makeshift belt guide/clutch? It seems like some angle iron would be an easier fix than a clutch. WheelHorse520H 708 #3 Posted May 31, 2022 (edited) I do not have the equipment or ability to make a clutch/belt guard thing to shift as much as I would like to. I found a clutch and a torque converter for a v belt, I'm just not sure which one is better for a tractor. One of my friends who knows more about them suggested a torque converter because it has a slow ground speed. Is this accurate? Yes you can add a centrifugal clutch with a V belt pulley as I have done a few customs using them and also torque converters. The easiest and most economical way to do it is to make belt fingers which will guide the belt around the engine pulley. This will allow the belt to slip (the clutch action on a WH tractor) around the engine pulley. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I should have mentioned, it came with the belt fingers but the way the holes are on this engine, the pulley blocks where they bolt to. That's why I started thinking outside the box for this one. Would I be able to shift while moving with a torque converter or a centrifugal clutch? Would this damage the transmission? I remember reading in the manual I printed from on here it said if you pushed the pedal down something like 2/3rds of the way down you could shift. wallfish 17,114 #6 Posted May 31, 2022 A WH trans should not be shifted while rolling. It's not synchronized like a car trans is. You can do it but it will grind doing it. Eventually the 3rd gear gear teeth will get worn and it will continue to pop out of 3rd all the time unless you hold the shifter there. Post a picture of that side of the engine. With the length of that drive belt to the trans the pulleys don't need to be in perfect alignment. There should be enough room behind the pulley for bolts to use the fingers. A 607 should have a 2 1/2" drive pulley. If you have something different then supplying ALL of the information makes internet diagnosis of anything MUCH easier Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Tractorhead 9,065 #7 Posted June 1, 2022 I use a centrifugal clutch on my Tiller, because it is the easiest Way steer it from Driver seat by just rev the Engine up, but i never would use it on my Horse. Sometimes it is required to drive with lower Rpm‘s where an manual clutch have definitely it advantages. Shifting while drive ain‘t be a good idea as allready mentioned before.
