HELP!!!

Recommended Posts

Jennifer

Hello all…. I am high jacking my wife’s account…. With her permission of course!  Her and I were trying to work on the 701 we got a year or two ago!  So we had it running but it ran uncontrollably full throttle and had to shut it down…. Looking it over noticed that the pin wasn’t there and was afraid the governor gear would come off… so we decided to tare into it after not being able to just install the pin….  Then compared the 701 engine to a 702 engine… the blocks are different and what parts am I to get…. Help!  I must say having a wife that works hard everyday taking care of her tenants and then coming home and getting greasy and dirty… That’s my dream girl come true!  The guy that had this engine was very non stingy with their gasket sealer Wife was removing it the best she could…. So new gaskets could be installed after we get this issue solved!

I never had a 701 - the last year of the non-ACR design (that is why it has the double S/G belt setup) with the small bore. Others more familiar with the older design will chime in to help...

Is the little tab thingy that pushes on the pin still attached to the shaft?

These are the gears from the two engines..  the pin isn’t there for the 701 it had just a bolt covering the hole..  the two governor gears are very different in size and shape.. I tried to put the gear and pin from the 702 in the 701 but still same issue the pin won’t line

Okay so update…. So I was thinking about this issue….  I decided to see if the 701 governor gear would fit in the regular 702 engine block….  Yes it fit and the pin went in and held at the governor gear in place as it should what is the deal with the 701 engine?????   A real head scratcher…..

Jennifer,

I can't help with your engine questions but I noticed from the photos you using a wire wheel on the engine parts without any facial protection. Speaking from experience, a full face shield or at least some safety glasses should be worn when doing this. Please don't take this as a criticism. Those little wires could fly into your eye.

For gasket and sealer removal look into some Roloc bristle discs from 3M. They are a little on the pricey side, but the last a long time when used properly, and won't tear up the sealing surfaces the way a wire brush will.

They also don't pose nearly the eye hazard that the wire wheels do. I still recommend some safety glasses when using them. They only draw back is that you will need something that spins a little faster than that drill to get the most out of them. High RPM and light pressure.
