Cables.

Recommended Posts

Mike C160

Greetings,

What are you folks doing for cables?

I have a choke cable on my C160 that is somehow too short. Really should be replaced.

Many thanks in advance

Cheers :)

I personally recommend either of these:

@ MIKE C160,  https://www.zoro.com/super-lube-4-oz-hydraulic-oil-bottle-150-iso-viscosity-85w-sae- use this in those new cables to insure continuous smooth action , also take the time to et the cables be where they want to be, secure at smoothest  movement point . makes a big difference. pete

Excellent advice. Those new cables may not come with any type of lubricant... and you definitely don't want any corrosion getting in there!!!

@Snoopy11

So just cut the ends off and pinch them back onto the factory lever?

Seems easy enough. I dont wish to ditch the factory lever system.

Pretty much... yes.

Again, I specifically recommend the last 2 cables that I mentioned, but buy what you wish...

I got a universal cable at Lowes for about 8 bucks. Switched levers and cut to length....:handgestures-thumbupright:

@Mike C160   , not to scare you , but have these springs added to my cable ends , springs gently pull cables / levers back to start point , also lubricate related movement areas . detail its function , thats what I did , strips of perforated , metal make good spring pull point , super lube , pete

Z bend pliers make all the difference when making cables.

Last cable I replaced was the throttle on the 416-8 , original seized up over winter ....even after it was off the tractor I couldn't get it to move clamped in the vice ......ordered a universal on Flea Bay and a Z bend pliers off Amazon - cut to size - kept everything original minus the cable - although the newer replacement was a thinner gauge wire than the 37 year old one that was there it works great .

+1 on that Z bend pliers @squonk posted above - exact one I picked up - for 19 bucks nice addition to the roll away makes easy work for the bends .
