4.5" vs 3.5" Deck Drive Pulley

My C105 had a 42" side discharge deck and it is pretty worn out so I picked up another 42" deck.  Seems the old deck had a 4.5" drive / center pulley and the new deck has a 3.5" drive / center pulley.  I ended up getting a smaller belt but the new deck seems to bog down in thick grass and it makes a lot of noise.  Should I try and move the old spindle or pulley to the new deck or should I try to run belt on the outside grove on the PTO?  I think the blades are going too fast with the smaller pulley.

My guess:  Presuming the center pulley is the correct one:   Your 'new' deck drive pulley is mounted upside-down.  This error is VERY typical and all you gotta do is flip it over so that the 4.5" side of the pulley is UP...and the narrower 3.5" side is down.

I really didn't think of that, I'm sure that would cause some major blade speed problems along with the bogging down issue I'm having.

I have this pulley if needed.  NOTE:  the drive belt on the PTO MUST be on the inner 'V' for the deck to work right.  The factory OEM belt is 102742 (94-2501 new #)

Well that fixed it, stupid pulley on the new deck was upside down.  Who does that?  I had to hit it with some penetrating oil and pry up to get it to come off.  All is good now.
