310-8 won't move

It's red and I'm green ,four days in and I'm still lost as to why my 310-8 won't move. First I can not find a year for it anywhere ,it's been repainted and the tags removed as far as I can find. 

While on jacks the wheels roll in all 4 gears at seemingly the right speed ,but I can easily stop them with my hand . 1 1/8 in. Axles, left one is offset out don't know why .

I did a badly needed tranny flush .I pulled the belt from a parts tractor I have ,they were the same .the tension pulley has no wobble but doesnt seem to have enough tension.like it needs a spring to pull it back.. any ideas or tips would be very appreciated.thanks for reading all this. Hope I'm posting this correctly

Make sure your keyways in the hubs and transmission input pulley are ok . And lets see a pic of the belt installed. Might just be too worn out causing the belt to bottom in the pulleys.

Another thing. The tractor takes a 5/8" wide belt. If there's a 1/2" wide belt on there it will slip like crazy.

Is there a spec number and serial number on the engine?

Is the high/low shifter between gears?  Don't force this shift lever - shifter fork damage will occur if you do.

That idler pulley for the drive belt should have a spring to apply tension to the belt. That's how it drives and clutches. You can simulate that tension by pulling back on the clutch pedal with your toe. The spring should be on the opposite side of the pulley. Near the brake drum

Yes thanks I did find that and had it adjusted back so far the clutch was almost on the floorboard.

I think that is the problem .the transmission input key is good but I just realized that the wheel hub key looks to be half out maybe.

Looks like you found the culprit that was stealing your power to the ground. Hope your hub was not damaged.

Thanks to your  suggestions I may have found the problem.im going to look into this now.

The bore of that hub sure looks wallowed out or the axle worn down. Let us know what you find after disassembly

Looks like the key shaved a nice 45 deg bevel on the inside edge of the hub.

Normally the axle should be flush with the outside of the hub. You'll want to check for damage if the slid-in hub has been rubbing against the transaxle case.

I meant no offense...only the fact that I can look at things for a long time and not see what I am looking for...and it ends up being right in front of me.  Sometimes, I will set up a lawn chair with an adult beverage and just observe the situation.  After the second adult beverage, the issue usually presents itself...but I would fix it tomorrow.    Being retired does have it's rewards.

It appears like whoever painted the wheels didn't notice it.

The end of the axle looks painted and it looks like the key too but it's a pic so that might all just be rust.

I usually think of the solution at 2 AM after the first adult pit stop!
