As I start thinking about all the tools to fill the new chest, I ran across this one that also has been in the family for well over 100 years. Seldom seen but easy to decipher it’s use. Anyone?

Handy Don

Clamps two things and aligns them (one jaw right hand thread, other jaw left hand thread) and pins keep jaws from twisting

Whatever it is it would make a pretty cool shifter handle for a rat tractor.

Pullstart

Does it open and close?  Like a separator?  Shaper like a shoe mold?

953 nut

Apparently it is an adjustable wrench, perhaps the predecessor to today's monkey wrench.   :confusion-confused:   Probably for tightening square headed bolts and nuts.

Exactly right. It is an adjustable wrench . To my knowledge the first of its kind. Square nuts were the norm at that time and many relatively large . It has a 1-3/4” capacity. As per my father my grand father already inherited it from his father.
Pictured here with an item it probably was used on frequently. Hardware used on an oxen cart.

That helps explain the pins.  The not only keep the jaws aligned, they also help transmit tightening torque.

Also known as a hand vise. Is the other side for metric? 🔩

Both sides are the same and open and close simultaneously. It’s adjustable so it works on anything within its capacity.
