Snoopy11 5,714 #2 Posted May 19, 2022 (edited) Looks like a crack in the cylinder head fins. When you are running the engine, do you feel any air/heat coming out... how is the engine performing? Looks low enough of a crack for crankcase ventilation to occur... Don Edited May 19, 2022 by Snoopy11
Snoopy11 5,714 #3 Posted May 19, 2022 I will tell you what I would do with that engine, @scotty... clean up the oil on the fins, (you can use brake cleaner... or whatever degreser you may have). Once you clean it up really well... find the crack... probably inbetween one of the upper fins where you see oil... Go to the parts store, and buy JB Weld HIGH HEAT... and follow the directions for use on the package. Smear a good dose of that stuff in the cracked area... You should be back in business. scotty 252 #4 Posted May 19, 2022 Engine runs great do you think it would be okay to leave it as is without using the jb weld?

I would caution that you may have more cylinder head issues in the future... and... I don't 'recommend' this course of action... If you do... just keep a hawk's eye on your oil level... Pullstart 62,905 #6 Posted May 19, 2022 When I’ve seen that, it’s been a blown head gasket….
squonk 41,150 #7 Posted May 19, 2022 Clean it good with brake cleaner. Dry it off good. Then spray carb cleaner on it. Go have a cup of coffee. If there is a crack there the carb cleaner will expose it so it's easy to see in about 10 minutes. Could even be a pin hole in the casting.
Ifixoldjunk 778 #8 Posted May 20, 2022 Yeah I’d say there’s a crack somewhere. Usually as far as oil leaks go I have a slight tolerance for them. Gaskets and seals, whatever, if it’s a crack however I’d put some JB on it. 1
moe1965 738 #9 Posted May 25, 2022 I had one look like that. Mine was a bad seal on crank case under fly wheel. Just a thought
