JoeM 7,874 #1 Posted May 18, 2022 Running the 520LXI with FEL the other day and was hearing some new noises. When I was close to the house I could really hear it. Sounded like a bad axle bearing. Got in the shop jacked up and spun the wheels and sure enough it popped and cracked. There was a slight up and down movement but was not sure why. The witness marks on the hubs were good so I knew the keys didn't spin out. I really thought the axle bearing was bad or going bad. One thing, the seals were good and that threw me off a bit. Figuring if the bearing was bad the seals were not far behind. I could see where the axle meets the hub, the rust line was broken. I pulled the hubs and sure enough had shiney spots where the hubs were moving a bit on the axle. As if it was teetering on the set screw. Bearings are good. Both rear hubs were about the same. The hubs are a loose slip fit. I reassembled with Loctite 660, oversized keys, and new sets. This thing works hard and is probably going to be a future candidate for taper lock hubs from A-Z. Just glad to catch it before it ruined the axle keys. 2
