pond195520032003 27 #2 Posted February 8, 2008 Kyle,, tthe pond branded tractors were the beginning of wheelhorse! started in 1946 with a walk away 2-wheel tractor and were made for 9 years! i think 1947 was the start of the 4 wheel tractor called Ride Away Senior! if you look at the seniers on this site you will what they look like! i think they hope someone will chime in here the smaller of the ponds were the ride away juniors(rj's for short) they were built fron 1955-1957 and are belt drive!
CasualObserver 3,408 #3 Posted February 8, 2008 the early 4 wheelers were "lever steer" they had a lever that you moved instead of a steering wheel. That's what Stephen's project is that he's documenting, he managed to find two old lever-steer Pond's near his home and was able to buy them.

TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #5 Posted February 8, 2008 Not actually -- it was the last name of Elmer, who, along with help from his son Cecil, started building the tractors. That's why the tractors were named "POND".
Rollerman 290 #6 Posted February 8, 2008 Greg the Lever Steer was actually the first tractor venture between Elmer & his son Cecil built in 1946 through 47. The Walk behinds came a few years later in 48 along with the "Senior" style tractor although that was not the official name till 55.
