Bill Winn 156 #1 Posted May 13, 2022 I just finished repairing my 05-42MR01 mower deck. I repaired the stress cracks and welded reinforcement plates over those areas. While I was cleaning off the underside I noticed that there are two large voids, one on either side, and they were FULL of crud and corruption. It seems like a great way for the deck to collect debris and hold moisture thereby causing rust and rot. Does anyone know what these voids are for and why there are slots/ vents that leave them exposed? Bill
WHX?? 48,801 #2 Posted May 13, 2022 Are those carriage bolts there? The slot might be so as to get them in and out. 1

I bet you're right. I might then say that there's a planning error in the design. lol
8ntruck 6,993 #4 Posted May 13, 2022 Assembly ease was probably the overriding design decision factor. They probably didn't expect them to last this long....
