Musical Instruments

Great thread. As a child I played piano. Took coronet lessons in 4th grade for one school year. In senior year I took up the baritone ukulele. In the Coast Guard I played bass guitar in a band we threw together. Only instruments I still have are the bass and the ukulele. I always wants to play the 5-string banjo and be in a bluegrass band. Never happened never will.

I took lessons as a kid.  Never did become a musician but when I'm alone, I pick on my Martin DX1K Dreadnought.

I'm not sure where my son Mike and his two sons Reed and Jake got the talent.

Jake is a music major at Gettysburg College.

Very, Very nice @Maz91 and Thank you for your input on this thread.

Absolutely! Thanks for inviting me over. Playing music has always been my #1 interest. I am jealous of your guitars that you have had for my entire life, and the vintage Martin!  I have done pretty well getting some absolute deals on amazing instruments over the years, so I can’t complain!! Hope to see some more people jump in with some pics!

Where are the drummers?! I vote we get a redsquare band going! The Wheelhorses seems like an obvious name! I’ve been dying to jam some good old rock n roll with people.

The top on that R9 is absolutely out of control. What a beauty. Oh man I’d love for a chance to crank up that jtm45 and play the main riff from all right now haha. Jealous!!!

Thanks! It’s also a nice comfortable 8.0lbs. That makes it good on my aging back.

That JTM45 half stack is definitely my desert island rig. Though I mostly play my 10W Univox as it is more portable and has enough power for practice and small gigs.

trying to revive the musical instruments thread with this ‘04 SG my uncle gave me as a wedding gift. This is a great guitar and very comfortable to play. Apparently whoever owned it before agreed because there’s a ton of cosmetic wear which I really love these days. It was recently refretted and it plays great.

A while back I decided it’s kinda silly to have so much guitar gear and sold off a lot of it but this one is a worthwhile addition. Very very grateful.

Some good looking instruments posted here.  Bought a 5 string banjo in 1975. Still have the price sticker of $350.00 that I paid for it. Took lessons for about 1 1/2 years. Sitting, waiting for my turn for a lesson, someone was doing a really great time on their banjo.  Lesson over, out of the room came a little fellow about the same height as his banjo.  I asked  my teacher "How many lessons had that boy had?"  He replied "It's his first."  I replied "This is my last." --and it was.  Well i dug the banjo out a few years ago and from time to time make noise on it.  Our autistic grandson does not care what kind of noise I make he just bounces along with it.  Dupuytrens hands have made playing it even more difficult.  I have made two hammered dulcimers and a couple of mountain dulcimers.  They worked out ok but store bought play better.

I'll quote myself.  In another thread about concert goers I was asked by  JCM post pictures of instruments I might have.  I've got a hammered dulcimer--about the only thing I can play whereas you'd recognize the tune.  My banjo mentioned above.  Below is one of mountain dulcimers I made probably about 1995.  We were living in the Philippines and our neighbor had a mango tree cut down.  I used my chain saw (I found out it was Illegal to own in the Philippines without being registered with the  government due to deforestation)  ripped it into boards, planed it down and ended up with the dulcimer in the picture.  The larger sound holes are lower United States.  As you can see, it's home is in our garage.  I forgot the pump organ I undertook as  a project last year.  I may have written about it somewhere on this site but basically I took it apart, replaced leathers and felts as needed and patched up the billows cleaned the 122 brass reeds.  The organ is fully functioning

Sponge?  I don't know much about them, so just curious, what's the connection?

Agreed, this is an excellent thread.

Do any of you guys bring your (musical) instruments to the Big Show?  I don't play, but I listen and watch a lot, and have a long history of being distracted by street musicians.  I usually just attend the show for one day, but I could easily talk myself into staying overnight if I knew there was some live music going on in the camping area at night.

They were a 90’s band known mostly for the song “plowed” I think. My band opened for them a couple years ago. We had an in at this one club for a while and opened for a couple bands like marcy playground, soul asylum, sponge and the Ataris.
