JimSraj 471 #1 Posted May 7, 2022 The 1267 with the k301 that I rebuilt last summer has statrted leaking oil from the breather cover again. I replaced the gaskets once already. Seemed good for about 5-6 hours of run time(several separate uses mowing) and adjusting the carb and governor. Can anyone tell me how to tighten that nut on the stud ? Seems like it’s a pretty finicky situation. Too tight and it leaks. Too loose-it leaks. Where is the sweet spot? Is there a torque setting for it?
WHX?? 49,917 #2 Posted May 7, 2022 Guessing your saying it leaks around the gaskets then? Try some gasket sealer. I would torque no greater than the spec for a mild steel 1/4-20.
ri702bill 8,729 #3 Posted May 7, 2022 I agree, use a good non hardening seater like Permatex #2. And once apart, verify that the inner plate has the reed installed properly and the drain hole it at the bottom. Bill 2
squonk 41,927 #4 Posted May 7, 2022 Make sure the plate and cover are straight. Use Aviation Sealant Napa # 765-1210.
JimSraj 471 #5 Posted May 7, 2022 Thanks for the suggestions. The reed is in correctly and the drain hole on the bottom. I’ve checked the plate for straight and it seems to be good. I’ll try the Permatex and torque for 1/4-20 and keep 🤞.
WHX?? 49,917 #6 Posted May 7, 2022 I don't know if this helps but there is supposed to be a short piece of rubber tubing between the covers. Not sure what it's purpose is.
squonk 41,927 #7 Posted May 7, 2022 The rubber seals the baffle plate against the inner gasket. When you tighten the nut you squish the rubber a bit and it pushes on the plate.
