Going to look at another one tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Fishroe

I don’t need another one but I’m going to look at one tomorrow. This is the only pic. Seller says 339 hrs. Not running. Fuel pump went out but they have a new one in the box. Said it was running fine before the pump quit working. Looks like it has 2 levers on the column. I don’t know much about a hydro other than reading some threads on it. Does this have the Eaton 1100

and does it have hydraulic lift in rear. I think it might but needed to check with Yal folks

What red flags should I be looking for and how do you disengage the trans so I can push it

This is a similar situation as another thread I was looking at, gentleman passed away and kinfolks from another state are selling some of his belongings. They have another one, pretty rough looking, not running parts tractor. Can anyone identify it. I’ll try to post pic. Last time it wouldn’t let me post but 2 pics. I need to become a member.  It let me this time.

The second picture appears to be a '67 long frame with a snow plow. These are great machines, wash off the bird poop and it will probably be a winner.

The 314 is probably a 1994 or '95. Perhaps @Ed Kennell can answer the question on the eaton 1100 or 700 and the hydraulic lift. Rear lift was an extra cost option on these, cant tell from the photo.

The rusty one looks to be a late 60’s model such as a Commando 8.
The newer one has hydraulic lift and will be an Eaton 1100. One steering column lever is the direction control and the other is for the hydraulic up/down.

Do you have to do anything to push it

The manual for my 91  520-H that has the Eaton 1100 says it can be pushed at a slow speed. Move the motion control lever fully forward, tractor will then move when pushed. I have found on my 520 it does not like to be pushed. Moving the lever forward does not seem to do much. @Fishroe

That 314-H has a clutch disengage lever right towards your right leg (sitting on the seat) to pull up. That can help for moving if it won’t start. Model #73401 most likely with a 1100 Eaton Trans.

If for some reason you can’t open the tow valve, you can always tip the tractor with a heavy hip or hand and spin one rear tire opposite of the direction you’re pushing.  With an open differential, it’ll move ok on three wheels.

The Eaton 1100 does not have a tow valve.  With the motion control lever in 'neutral', you should be able to push it at a slow walking pace.  DO NOT TOW IT.

Won't help. That just disengages the engine from the trans, trans still has to roll, heads up, it will be noisy at least mine are..

If the tires are fully inflated there should be no problem at all. Like @8ntruck said, motion control in neutral, may be a good idea to make sure the parking break isn't set too.

Little confused

300 series manual says to move motion lever forward when pushing. Yal are saying push it in neutral and that makes more sense to me

My advice is based on the Eaton 1100 in my 1982ish C195.  I assume that all Eaton 1100 transmissions operate in the same manner.  If the transmission in the tractor you are considering is something different, treat it per reccomendations for whatever model it is.

The hydros are very difficult to push no matter where the motion lever is.  Your manual might say hand push only to prevent transmission damage.  Get the trailer as close as possible to load.  Pause every few feet to allow pressure to bleed back down.

Thanks

i will do that

just didn’t want to damage it

the position of the motion lever was my concern

or does it really matter

this manual I printed out back in 2014 shows

motion control lever on the side #13 not on the steering column

All that fluid resistance will wear a guy out quick.  I still support just tipping it enough for one tire to spin backwards.  It seems like it takes less energy overall.

My experience is that the lever position doesn't make all that much difference (my best position is slightly forward for pushing forward and slightly back for pushing in reverse) but the advice on SLOW MOVEMENT is very important. If you start to hear loud clicking, pause. That is the overload valves in the hydro opening and closing.

Or just pick it up and carry it to the trailer...:D

All the previous suggestions here are good ones. Make sure the park brake is disengaged on the hydro. Expect to hear the ball pistons rattle a little bit. Mine sounds like marbles in a coffee mug if I move it more than a few feet. Don't be surprised if a small amount of the oil "burps" out of the filler tube. Especially if it's been sitting a while.

Great find BTW!

Well here they are

got a new fuel pump in the box, 3 new blades, a new oil filter and fuel filter and owners manual.

Didn’t pay anything for the little tractor.  The little tractor is pretty cool. Not locked up. I like the little hood latch. I didn’t know it had a lever and cable for lifting rear implements. Little tractor has a number below the dash 194163. Can anyone identify what year and model it is. You can cut grass and fish at the same time. 😂 Also is that a wheel horse sleeve hitch on the 312. Looks modified   339 hours  no problem pushing it. Blade deck has no rust holes  battery in little Tracy is 22 years old!!

275 for the 312 and 25 for the implements

and that was their asking price. Husband and wife were really nice people

No model number above the 194163 serial?

Possibly a 1966 model 856

Took a brush to it and you are right. It is an 856

I couldn’t make the number out in the picture that I posted but my pic on the phone it’s clearly an 856 number
