slim67 2,735 #1 Posted May 1, 2022 I went to a plow day event this weekend but ended up not really getting started because my lift cable broke. But before and during the event, the JD guys walked up to the drivers meeting without a greeting or anything.Why are they so serious? They all had 420,430,455 and two SCUT models that I didn't catch the models of. While all the other brands struggled these guys motored along like the two Cubs that were there. Do they know they have superior equipment ? I can't see having that kind of money into a tractor for a few events a year. Sure they're high end but your definitely paying for that.Sorry if I sound envious but again as with everything else, money wins the day. I have a variety of equipment.... and... even if I owned a massive tractor... I would still prefer Wheel Horse to every other piece of machinery on the market. Many people have asked... regarding my Wheel Horses... "what can THEY do...?" ...in a snobby way... I don't say a word... I just... show them... squonk 41,070 #4 Posted May 1, 2022 Maybe the GT crowd but not the full size boys. That title belongs to the IH crowd. At 2 local events, I have found my Wheel Horses moved and not by me. The local IH guys wanted my spot as was walking around they just up and moved them! Needless to say I wasn't happy and of course its a Good old Boy network and the event staff sided with them. In my area there may be some ribbing between the brand loyal guys but it is always in fun. We had a good variety of tractor brands at @WHX?? plow day last year & "Go ahead & take around on my tractor" was quite common. I took a round on one guys JD 420 with a 2 bottom trailer plow & he had ago on my diesel powered WH. Both of us had likes & dislikes about the others tractors. We spent a little time comparing. The people are one reason that I like tractor shows over car shows. Tractor people are usually a better group of people. There were some other factors such as field conditions etc. It doesn't matter, there's other events hopefully here in Ohio. I used to go with my dad quite a bit since we were both into cars. You'd talk to the guys and find out how much time went into restoring them. I don’t know what I would do if someone moved my tractors without permission. I’m generally a very mild mannered person but some things you just don’t do. I’m also pretty sure that my reaction to those people and those around them at that moment would be something that they would never forget. Never in a million years would I jump on someone’s tractor,machine, truck, etc that I didn’t know and move it unless it was an emergency. It's first come first serve.The IH guys wanted that spot for a club raffle display. According to the JD fellows, they just picked my tractor up and carried it. ri702bill 8,316 #18 Posted May 2, 2022 @squonk Had something similar happen 50 years ago when I was a youngun turning wrenches on a neighborhood short track stock car. This track had 2 pit areas - the upper paved one held about 10 cars and was reserved for the top 10 in points and past track champions. We always had to park in the dirt larger lot - we always tried to get a spot behind turns 3 & 4, as it was better lit and a lot less craters. One Saturday, there was a feature event with the NEMA Midgets - they got the upper pit as a courtesy. We got there early, but spaces were few and far between, as now all of the regulars had to park in the dirt. We got a spot near turn 4, and got setup. These three "Local" guys approached us and told us we would have to move, as they "always" parked next to each other - we told them to get here earlier next time. It was our turn in a heat race and we all watched from the fence - looked down and all our stuff was moved and in a pile, well away from where we were originally. Lesson learned - Don't leave your stuff (like tractors) unattended, as Indiana Jones's father told him "Son, we are visitors in an unholy land ..." 2 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
squonk 41,070 #19 Posted May 2, 2022 The show in town is a 10 min walk from my house and a 5 minute tractor ride. I rode the 704 down and parked on the corner. Don't you know, one of the three local guys spun and got hit and had the gall to ask if HE could borrow it. I will say my 104 can pull a 10" plow like nothing while my JD 110 struggles. Thinking about getting rid of it actually lol. Never once have I used a WH for ground plowing but if I ever get a minute to work on the Raider 12 I got last year that is going to change. I will say that I LOVE JD 2 cylinder farm tractors though.
