Would you buy these? 2 WH for $200 :-O

Had some little niggling feeling that I should look at Craigslist, and saw an ad for both of these tractors for $200:

I'm not very familiar with the Work Horse models. Ad says it ran recently but not now, may just need a battery.  I'm puzzled about the 416-8 because he says it has a Kohler engine.  Mine has an Onan. Did they make some with Kohlers?   I called and left a voice mail...   I was ready to pay almost that much for a pair of used rear Ags with rims.  Looks like the seats are in good shape too. I'm thinking I'd keep those and maybe a few other choice parts, and part out & sell the rest.

Thoughts?  :eusa-think:

Yes, run.

Some 416's had Kohler one-cylinder 16 and some had Onan P216 twins.

The Work Horse in the picture has been repowered, I suspect, with a Briggs Vanguard. If in good shape, these are a nice OHV engine.

Sent an email also.  Do you think both of these would fit in the back of a pickup truck with the tailgate down?

Got them yet? :confusion-confused:

For that price they'd fit in the back of my pocket... If you need help call @Pullstart... He'd get three more on top these two...

The guy isn't responding - I hope that doesn't mean he sold them already!  :ranting:

Yeah, I have a pickup truck that has seen better days and I don't trust for a 75 mile drive, so I need to rent one, and don't want to rent a trailer too.... although, if not running I'll need to use the winch to get them up ramps into the truck.  Hoping they are still available...

I'll be careful.  If he wants a $20 deposit to hold for driving time, maybe I'd do that but that's about as much as I'm willing to lose if it's a scam.  I don't get that feeling though. Sounds like the guy just wants them gone.  We shall see.

Both are heavy (500-600 lbs) and are about 5' long and 35-40" wide. Not easy to put two in a pickup truck unless you have an FEL or other equipment to put one sideways with the wheels up on the side of the bed box. Trailer + your truck?

Well... Craiglist stuff... is... eh... well... dangerous...

Good luck... but I'm still wary... (I've been in your very same shoes several times before)...

FYI, this is what the ad says, and there are 3 pictures - 1 of both tractors, one of the 416-8 Kohler engine, and one of the Honda engine.  This doesn't sound "scammy" to me, but people are getting trickier all the time:

"Two riding lawn mowers for the price of one. Both are Wheel Horse brand name.

The first one is model # GT-1848. with 18 HP Honda engine. Automatic start. 48" wide cut. It did run not too long ago but not currently. Might just need a new battery.

The second riding lawn mower is just for parts. Model # 416-8. 16 HP. Kohler motor. 48" wide cut.

Questions? Call [number in Indy]"

Is that a Briggs & Stratton tag on the flywheel screen?

I'd be all over that!   do you have a home depot that rents trucks? A flatbed should load both.

You'll need a ramp to load them, though, and a winch or come-along.

It sounds worth investing some time as long as there is no request for a "deposit" or "earnest" money.

"Ran not too long ago" unspoken next sentence might be "until the engine seized", right?

But sometimes the bargain is real and if you don't go look you don't get it.

Sure does, but those look more like honda than vanguard tins?

I have a pair of ramps, a 2000 lb 12v winch, and a come-along.  I think I can get them into a truck, trailer would be easier...

Exactly.  If I can get these, the parts I was going to buy anyway would offset the cost, and one part sale should cover the truck rental. Then it's all icing on the cake.

As long as you keep things cash on delivery there is never a problem.

This is what I expect from a CL buyer. Hand me cash when you come to pick the item up. I also extend this same curtesy to a CL seller.

I've always been one of those people who tends to not get excited about anything, so I'm not very disappointed when things don't work out. :(

The lack of response from the seller so far has got me thinking either this was a "too good to be true" scam or someone has beat me to it.  I think if I had seen this listing earlier (CL is now saying it was listed "about 8 hours ago"), since it's Sunday and I'd probably not be able to rent a truck today, I would have given the old 1990 F-250 a chance to show me that she still had it in her to make the trip.

I'm going to be quite bummed out if I can't buy these.  :crying-yellow:

416-8 with 16hp Kohler. One of my favorite all time tractors. Tell them you will give him 300 for them and get them asap.
