TonyToro 1,058 #1 Posted May 1, 2022 We @TonyToro Jr. started a quick fun project. We call him MaTer…like from the movie Cars. He’s rusty, crusty and going to stay that way. Yesterday we brought him in and stripped down. There were some things bent, broken and unfortunately to rotted that needed fixing. We removed the Briggs and Stratton and installed a pull start 8hp Briggs and Stratton. Today will be reassembly and look how the cargo/brush guard will get attached and then how the rear boom is going to mounted. 5 10

peter lena 8,637 #4 Posted May 1, 2022 @TonyToro Jr. my grandson frequently asks me how do you find so much to do ? how do you keep so busy ? emphasis in answer to not be afraid do do something because you are worried about failing . failing is the part of learning that is vital , it won't kill you , but it will embarrass you and humble you , and most vital its the learning from your screw up that will , stay with you . once you realize how a failure can , improve you , you take to it like water . butt kicked and feet to the fire, been there many a time , pete 6

So many people I know happily pick holes in all my projects, point out mistakes etc, but none of them are brave enough to try anything themselves - so therefore they achieve nothing in life. I often look back at our busy life and the mistakes we made, some of them huge, but I wouldn't change anything as they are generally the defining moments that put you on the correct path. 3

We used to call those folks that laid back and criticized the "Monday Morning Quarterbacks" - I just referred to them as "The Tinkle Team"... guttless never- did-a-darn thing miserable folks... It flipped over when the original owner was using it and when we picked it up(saved it) it had a pine tree on top of it. The hood looked worse but I bent it enough to get it to latch. 😆

TonyToro 1,058 #16 Posted May 8, 2022 We @TonyToro Jr. worked on and off all week on MaTer. We smashed on the hood some more and it opens and closes well. Yesterday the carburetor was cleaned and rebuilt. MaTer runs! It doesn’t like to start so easily though. I might have to mess with it some more. It takes 5-10 pulls total to get it to fully run. Starting in choke, it’s 1-2 pulls. It runs and dies quickly. I switch to half choke, pull 2-3 times and runs dies after 10 seconds or so. Then 2-3 pulls off choke. I adjusted the idle by ear and sounds about right to me. It does run well through all rpm once it’s running. Restarting is more difficult than cold start for some reason. I guess more bench time…. 😆 We still have to get another tube for the front tire and a pair for front wheel bearings. The next thing we will be working on is the front rack. ebinmaine 67,655 #17 Posted May 8, 2022 Them carbs can be a tad temperamental which can cause your temper and mental issues. Another cleaning out will likely help. I have a B & S 8 HP on Trina's first tractor and restoration project, Pony. It's ignition has been changed to the Pertronix module. Definitely started easier after that. 1
