mrharris12 32 #1 Posted April 27, 2022 Hi all, Fairly new to he hyrdo trans WH. I have a 1987 310-8 that my dad had and handed down to me when he got a 416-8, then recently bought a 1987 418-C which has the hydro trans. How often should the trans oil be replaced and what weight oil should be put in? And is there any other thing to keep an eye out for or maintenance wise for the hydro trans? This has probably been discussed many many times but couldnt find it when I looked. Thanks
R Scheer 502 #2 Posted April 27, 2022 (edited) There is a manuals section on the forum which should have all the info you need. If the fluid in your hydro is amber, it takes 10w30 engine oil, I use Mobil 1 synthetic as most of my use is winter time. Filter is WIX 5140? And I change the oil and filter once a year. Also @ebinmaine made a very complete baseline maintenance list, things to check on new to you tractors. Edited April 27, 2022 by R Scheer
WHX?? 49,149 #3 Posted April 27, 2022 (edited) In case I haven't done so. Pull the dipstick and check the oil color. If brown run 10w-30. If red use ATF. I always change fluids on a new to just because I have no idea when it was last done. Filter is is a NAPA 1410, Wix 51410, GENUINE OEM TORO PART # 79-5270 OIL FILTER; REPL. 102819, 106-5830, 108335, 5990 for the purist Edited April 27, 2022 by WHX??

953 nut 55,746 #7 Posted April 27, 2022 The 418-C is a great tractor. Mine is my go to snow mover and it has been a real pleasure to use. Makes a great leaf blower too. This transmission manual manual should help.

The engine was rebuilt 100 hours ago so i figured now would be a good time to flush all the fluids out since the trans oil is low anyway and its reaching the EoF for the oil. @oliver2-44 the awesome thing about the 418 I just got is that its from the original owner and he had every piece of paperwork: manuals, bill of sale, receipts of the attachments he bought, receipts of maintenance done to it. I never thought I would ever see that. 2
