Red Riding Mod 1 #1 Posted April 26, 2022 Good afternoon Wheel Horse patrons! I need help finding a total gear pack and differential gear for a Wheel Horse B3-9 Unidrive - RJ 58/59 But first, a little about me... In 2015 I discovered wheel horse tractors for the first time. The old vintage & compact design of the Pond/RJ and Suburban models ch simplistic, versatile and timeless design. I scoured the internet finding any wheel horse to acquire, my first being the WH 854, an older restored show stopper. Here, my enjoyment of compact garden tractors began. Now as its spring 2022, I have owned, built or restored many compact tractors. Though, Canada being almost void of RJ's, I worked on other projects inspired by my enjoyment of WH's. Alas, last year I found a rough RJ with a modern engine for $500 (gulp) See below; I have now time to take the horse to the vet and inspect what needs to be done and what parts will be needed for a restore. I thought nothing of it really,... until I took apart the transmission. As I pulled the oil drain plug, I was eagerly expecting the dark rush of vintage 90 weight oil to steam out and filling the pan to the brim! Nothing of the sort happened... As I took off the transmission plate, what I found was complete disaster. After pressing upon an archeological dig of 2 pounds of dirt, I uncovered some fossilized gears. I presumed it had been parked at the bottom of some lake for quite some time. It appears that while the old owner was riding the horse, one of the bearings ruptured and proceeded to impede every single gear in the box... and then subsequently parked it in a lake. This gear pack is certainly difficult to come by. I feel saddened that I cannot put life back into this old horse. If someone does have a gear pack and differential gears, I would certainly like to pay reasonably price and shipping costs for it. I hope to hear anyone's response! Good day!

Pullstart 63,090 #5 Posted April 27, 2022 and best of luck! @Wheelhorse Wes do you have anything to help already in Canada by chance? what’s the little crawler tractor?
oliver2-44 9,848 #6 Posted April 27, 2022 (edited) Sadly your transmission is all to common. When the rubber shifter boot cracks and fails it allows those transmissions to fill with water. You might also contact one of our vendors A-Z Tractor Salvage. Edited April 27, 2022 by oliver2-44
Red Riding Mod 1 #7 Posted April 27, 2022 To Oliver: That would makes a lot of since now... just don't know where all the dirt came from. I'll look into AZ tractor, thanks for that info. To Pullstart: that is a Moto-boy garden tractor -1980s maybe. Cast iron front end with a newer Kolher 5hp electric/pull start. The tiny transmission just coped with the power. If the gears are the same in a suburban transmission then YES I have a spare Im going to be putting another transmission into my 1960 suburban 400 The transmission I have in it, I put new bearings and gaskets, it drives fine but when I try to push the tractor backwards there is a tough spot in it wasnt like that before I put new bearings in but anyway the gears are good in it if this fella wants to message me

I've had two 3-Piece, a 3 speed and a 8 speed transmission full of what looks like dirt like that. I really wonder if a lot of it is possible rust mixed with gear oil that turns into that dirt looking sludge. Thankfully I've picked up two 8 speed transmissions that look just like new inside Guys correct me on this but aren't the gears in all the 3 speed transmissions the same as the gears in the RJ & Suburban 3-piece transmissions. This picture below is a 3 speed for my Suburban 551 project.
stevasaurus 22,857 #11 Posted April 27, 2022 Pretty much, the gears are the same, but not the differential and mushroom gear. Here is the thread to look at... @Lane Ranger may be able to help you also. 2
