Norman T 2 #1 Posted April 25, 2022 How do you get a pump to start pumping ? Motor runs great, it just dont pump fluid...
stevasaurus 22,857 #2 Posted April 25, 2022 I'm not sure there is a way to prime the pump, but I checked for manuals in the "Manuals" Section / transmissions / hydro and came up with this manual. There are a bunch more there if you want to take a look.

What makes you think the pump needs primed? Is the pump input shaft turning, pulley and key in place? Tow valve closed?
stevasaurus 22,857 #4 Posted April 25, 2022 Ed, I know next to nothing about hydros. I know pumps sometimes need to be primed. I suggested looking in the manual section for the answer until more knowledgeable members came in. Sometimes, I get lucky trying to offer assistance...sometimes I don't. Is the answer in the Manuals??

I have never needed to prime a Sundstrand after draining, flushing and re filling. The most common reason the Sundstrands don't function is because of failure to close the tow valve. Let's hope that's all it is. BTW, the three different models have a tow valve located in different locations. 1
stevasaurus 22,857 #6 Posted April 25, 2022 I know that. I have an 876 which is teaching me more then I can comprehend at my age. Learning about the tow valve was invaluable. Mine works easy...and guess what? When the horse had been sitting awhile, I opened the tow valve to be able to push it into storage. When I got it out to use it, it would hardly move...DAH...1/2 turn of the tow valve and Boom-Sha-Ka-La-Ka. Just makes me dangerous.

squonk 41,313 #8 Posted April 25, 2022 @Ed Kennell I know of the valve that sticks out the L front of the pump like on my 76 C-160 with the screw driver slot and the bolt you turn with a 1/2" wrench on the L Rear of the pump on my 1075 Hydro gear. Where is (are) the other location(s)?

I couldn't find a picture of this tow valve. I have all Eaton 1100 hydros. Maybe Paul @pfrederi or Dave @daveoman1966 has one and can post a picture. Ed Kennell 38,630 #10 Posted April 26, 2022 (edited) Found it Mike @squonk. Page 49 item 6 on the picture .file:///C:/Users/ED/Downloads/Sunstrand%20Hydro%20(part%204).pdf Edited April 26, 2022 by Ed Kennell
squonk 41,313 #11 Posted April 26, 2022 Thanks Ed. I was thinking there was a top one. Friend has a Hydro that he can't find the tow valve. The decal on the tractors says it should be out front with the screwdriver stem but wondering if the trans got swapped at some point.

squonk 41,313 #13 Posted April 26, 2022 Found a pic of the top valve in the hydrogear section. I bet that trans got swapped. Hope so, he's got to be able to roll it it.
Ed Kennell 38,630 #14 Posted April 26, 2022 (edited) Yeah, not sure why my link won't work, but it is actually in the file that Dino posted above. If I remember, the Tee handle has to be pointed Left to right to tow and front to back to run. Edited April 26, 2022 by Ed Kennell
