Recommended Posts

Hello,

New to this tractor and i'm looking for a new carb for my H55A-1170 or something that is compatible with this engine. Any parts pages or anything along those lines would be very helpful!

Thanks,

Also, which time of fuel do you guys use? I know older engines don't like the fuel at the gas pumps.

Thanks!

I think several folks here have used a Kohler carb on their Techy engines with some success.  Somebody will be along shortly with details.

As far as fuel goes, you will want to find some without alcohol mixed in.  Typical pump gas has somewhere between 10 and 15 %. Alcohol free recreational gas is what you want.

The alcohol in the modern gas is what bungs up the old fuel systems that were not designed for it.

There are plenty of aftermarket carbs out there for the Techy's. Just look the pictures over good do to ensure that every thing looks the same as the one you have.

One example:

https://www.amazon.com/Carburetor-Carb-Tecumseh-Horse-TILLERS/dp/B0725RXBK9/ref=asc_df_B0725RXBK9/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198123788296&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8306905456561669747&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1028057&hvtargid=pla-349807863090&psc=1

Yes definitely try to use ethanol free gas. In my area I have to use the 91 octane to get away from ethanol.

If you have the original carb for the h55 lauson, I believe that's a pretty rare carb with the way the adjustment screws are opposite of the aftermarket ones. @formariz might be able to add to this

Other carbs will work it's a tight machine to work and adjust

550 suburban should have a Tillotson updraft carburetor.

Correct. Not many survived on them since it is a strange bird to most and a bit finicky to adjust.

How did you adjust your carb? Could you take some pictures of your wiring? I would like to copy it since it looks like we have a similar tractor?

Thanks,
