formariz 11,987 #1 Posted April 20, 2022 So the newly acquired Lawn Ranger for my Granddaughter had a bad engine. No Compression. No problem. Simply pulled one of the NOS K181s off the shelf and with a few modifications it’s all ready. 6
WHX?? 48,828 #2 Posted April 20, 2022 That's another nice thing about horses is it's very easy to swap engines. Exactly why my goal is to have good spares on the shelf. Nice job on the fuel delivery plumbing Cas.
WHNJ701 4,165 #3 Posted April 20, 2022 The k181 probably adds a little extra nose weight too to keep the front end on the ground

Had to ditch the extra deep K181 filter which is unique to that engine and use a smaller one. Although it does fit it does not allow hood to be installed since one has to get hood into steering column also. Edited April 21, 2022 by formariz

Made me wonder why they didn't use Kohlers on these little guys. ...then I put full size wheels and tires on it and ended up with a "787" that turns sharper than any tractor I own!
formariz 11,987 #9 Posted April 21, 2022 As mentioned in the other thread regarding obtaining this tractor this was a special find and an emotional event for the owners daughter. I thought fitting adding a little something in his memory. Sometimes the story behind the object is worth more than the actual object.

Then multiply that by how many tractors they made. This was figured to be a budget mower for smaller places too.
squonk 41,150 #11 Posted April 21, 2022 You took the AAA stickers off? Well I guess you need them with the Tecky now gone!

pfrederi 17,741 #13 Posted April 21, 2022 My L107 is on its second techy. First one was replaced so we could get ACR to make it easier for my father to start... (That was in the early 90s he was too frugal for electric start). I added electric start and it has been used year round the last 25+years. Starts quicker than any kohler... in my fleet of 20+/- Kohlers
