WHX?? 48,828 #7 Posted April 21, 2022 3 hours ago, Sparky said: @WHX?? You lived in Connecticut? Where? Yep when I was stationed at the sub base in the late 70's early 80's & for about four years after I got out & worked at General Dynamics EB building subs. Where not would be the answer! Got kicked around a lot as it was tough to hold a place going to sea for months on end. Didn't mind it, was young and single back then. Groton, New London, Quaker Hill, Ledyard, Haddam, Norwich areas to name a few. Pachaug State Forest was a regular haunt. 2
Sparky-(Admin) 21,326 #8 Posted April 21, 2022 Interesting…I work for General Dynamics/Electric Boat. But not at the main plant or shipyard, my office is on the Sub Base. I’m probably going in and out of all the buildings you did back then!

Lots of time in the damage control and dive & drive trainers & the Group 2/ Subron 14 buildings. Things prolly changed alot over the years. Heard tell they tore down the escape training tower? Someday I am gonna visit again before I croak. My 2 year stint at EB was pulling cables & wiring the myriad of junction boxes & electrical panels on the then new Ohio SSBN classes. I loved doing the IC switch board and ballast control panels.... sit down work! Edited April 21, 2022 by WHX?? 2
Sparky-(Admin) 21,326 #10 Posted April 22, 2022 @WHX?? Very familiar with all of that! I work on all the submarine trainers, simulators and regular desk & chair classrooms. Dive and drive trainers were moved into an addition built onto Nimitz Hall. They were in building 152 next door to the Brig (you spend any time there??? ) but it was knocked down. Brig was knocked down as well. Damage control has been in the same building since I started worked on base 22 years ago, and it’s an old building so I bet it’s the same one as when you were here. We have upgraded it many times of course. Escape was completely demolished and a brand new facility was built on the opposite side of the road. If ya do make it here ya better look me up!! 1

wallfish 17,011 #22 Posted May 29, 2022 Yeah, the threat of rain really dampens the turnout. With the long weekend it's probably better up there today but just hanging out, cruising around and telling jokes is a good time for me. 1
