If you don't check EVERYTHING on that 520, you will wish you had considered those.  :ROTF:    @binna

I'm seeing a number of minor things:

Seat is spent

Engine has been rewired.

9 pin connector was hot.

Left rear axle seal is leaking.

Battery hold down is missing.

Air filter sensor is broken and its hose is sucking dirt.

Fuel line pulled tight at pump and too much slack at rear.

May not be original engine.

Sloppy wiring at transaxle.

JMO I would offer 750 and go from there.

Can't argue with that. All he can say is no.

WH tractors are getting rare down here, and I wouldn't give that much for an 88 with 1000 hours. But that is just my opinion.

Yep, it went from a '93 with 300 hours for $1500 to a '88 with 1000 hours.   The deck looks OK with new blades.     If it starts easy runs well  from 500 to 3600 RPM  without surging and will spin the tires when fastened to a tree, and mows OK,   I would start at  $700.

For 1100 hour machine, and all the issues........ that is telling you a story. If you are not super handy and have time to spare, probably should move on.

Cutting a half an acre, there are much better and easier to work on wheel horses. A nice 312-8 or even a 312 or 314 H would be a much better choice. Plenty of power and less wiring issues for sure.

42 inch decks give a nice cut too and there are options for side and rear discharge. :twocents-twocents:

WHX??

Gotta side with the others on value.  Even mentioning the issues to the seller to see if he would come down on price I would still walk away. Just better deals out here to be had.

I bought a 600 hr 94 with a cab, blower, tiller,  generator & lawn vac for 1750. Sure had to travel abit for it but still.

Just too big of a risk if your looking for plug & play. Now if you were looking for a project and could get it for say 500... different story.

Personally I would stay away from it and look for better. Joe nailed it.

Gotta like your sense of humor tho!

See the large bolts on the engine?  If you get any 520, make sure all of these are tight! It's the crankshaft bearing retainer. I had these loosen up on my 520 and I ended up with over a quart of oil on the ground in no time!

If I was looking for a tractor to mow 1/2 acre with ease of maintenance in mind I'd skip all of the 300-500 series and look for a C-120, no name 12 or Raider. IMHO. Less tin work and better quality steel.

hi folks-

i definitely passed on the machine. yep, 1000hrs! not the 300 i was told on the phone. i have done some thinking and some more reading/watching.

i am looking for a lawn tractor not a mower. i have gates, beds, trees, bumps, slope, really thick areas (grass) and some normal and crap grass areas. I want power steering and a machine that can handle a blade. a 42-46" deck would be plenty. a hydro deck would be a plus but not a deal breaker.

i can change fluids and filters and probably belts, those types of things. electrical/carb/tran work is above me

i really appreciate everyone's feedback. it's nice to have folks to give their .02. :)

73 12HP Basically a C-120 but instead of saying C-120 on it it will just have a 12
