Which fuel pump for KT17

Recommended Posts

bo dawg

Im looking at so many fuel pumps for the 1982 C-175 KT17s with so many different P#s. Not sure whats what. Then do I go with vacuum or electric. The old one leaks gas till after it gets running and now has become hard to get started.

Thanks

Bo

Search this site for the Facet pump numbers.

Quite a few members have gone that way, including myself. I have an electric pump in the parts bin for my Big Wheel Tractor project.

I switched several of my Wheel Horses over to electric fuel pumps and the hard starting problems went away. Mount it on the frame lower than the tank, wire it to a circuit that is powered when the key is on (like the hour meter) and protect it with a fuse (5 amps is fine).

@bo dawg  using this a couple of years now , very quiet / reliable ,https://www.amazon.com/CarBole-Universal-2-3-5P-S-I-Operating-Self-Priming/dp/B01IR6BNKY/ref=asc , good pricing , also a good opportunity to install a vertical  fuel check valve , from fuel pump to carb , quick starts ,  EVIL ENERGY , 5/16  SIZE . have this  set up  on my 3 horses , consistently works , very reliable , pete

I'll third that ....if I wasn't such a dang purist.... :hide:

My 520 #3 is the only tractor I have that has one. Turn the key & listen for the pump to change pitch as the bowl fills and she fires right up. Even after setting for months.

Facet posiflo have several never an issue.  Made in USA good enough for aircraft good enough for WH.  There is a plate you can buy but you can make your own or leave the pump in place

So I assume that the Hipa vac style pumps are not that great like originally on the 520s?

The pressures are adjustable? Is lower the better so you dont flood carb?

Not adjustable.  I have used both 2.0-1.0  and the 4.0-1.5 no issues.

My problem with pulse pumps is if they fail they can suck fuel n the crankcase...

Electric, hands down!! and the Facet .... type? is preferable (there are after mkt clones (square shaped) also and I have had good luck with them) The MANY electrics shown on the bay can be ... overwhelming? But one type seems to have a high failure rate and that is the round shaped ones, would not recommend them....

I would think so. I used the cheapy 2-3 psi jungle ones on customers tractors with no issues. Yah Pacer worried about how long they would last cause guys report they had issues. Couple out there for two three years now and no complaints. The carb float should keep the engine from flooding out but if the carb inlet has got crap in it all bets are off. Filter in front of the pump then.

I know when @dclarke put one on my 520 he used a better one but he's a classy guy! :D

I spend a little more on the Napa 610-1051 which is the Facet pump but it costs more than online. But if there's an issue I can drive down the street , throw it at them and get another. :)

I would wire it to the positive of the coil.  If a safety switch is activated, the pump will shut down when 12V is removed from the coil.  Much safer in my opinion, as it stops gas from pumping if the tractor flips over, and you're thrown off the seat.
