binna 26 #1 Posted April 16, 2022 (edited) Hi all- I am in need of a mower. I have a 1/2 acre with an incline and some areas toward the bottom where the grass gets thick. I came across a 312-8 here in Orange County NY. Not sure of the deck size. 12hp Kohler. Looks like some spray painting done on it. Says it's in really good shape and ready to mow. He wants $1,000 for it. Seems steep. I can doing oil/filter changes but major work I'd have to have someone do. Any thoughts? thanks for any input! stevasaurus 22,764 #2 Posted April 16, 2022 I might be worth $1000...if the engine and transmission are good. The deck looks to be 36" or 38"...missing the pulley cover. A better price would be $800. It is a nice looking horse.
clueless 3,002 #3 Posted April 16, 2022 That's a 1998 or newer 312-8 with a mid to late 80's hood on it, with a 36" rear discharge deck. It looks to be in nice shape, it should have an hour meter on it. The hour meter may or may not be accurate, people leave the key on sometimes, but if it has low hour 200-800 hr's that would coincide with what condition the tractor looks to be in or maybe not. Looks to have the electric lift on it, if it starts right up, no funny noises, knocks or smoke, trans works good in all 8 gears, like Steve said $800 drive it off the lot.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,326 #4 Posted April 16, 2022 Agree with the guys… $800 or LESS assuming it’s mechanically sound. It looks like a 36” deck and the hood is off an older model. Hopefully it isn’t something that someone cobbled together just to make a buck. Would be good to bring someone with you that has a bit of knowledge about tractors, extra set of eyes is always good

ANTPER 207 #7 Posted April 29, 2022 If you do a search on Face book market place you will find lots of Wheel Horses much cheaper available. A few fixer uppers but that's part of the fun in it. For 1200.00 it better be real clean looking and highly maintained.
