Axle Hubs and I thought I seen it all!

Hub one was on an old C160 A, Amazing how much effort was put into this half fast job. Bored and sleeved hub and installed on a very bad axle keyway / shaft.

Hub 2 was on a auction tractor. using a breeze band stop and JB weld. A unique thing about this was I had to use the big hub puller and it came off with some resistance the entire way. What was cool the axle was still good!

Ideal candidate, if you own, or have access to a lathe? for machining a tapered bore in the hub, turn a matching sleeve, complete with a flange. Drill the flange with clearance holes, then drill and thread matching holes in the hub face. Slit the sleeve to form a keyway, insert sleeve into hub, fit to axle and tighten bolts to clamp to axle. If you drill, say four clearance holes in sleeve flange, drill two more and thread for extractor screws for when you need to remove hub. This is similar to how the pulleys on one of my flail mowers are secured, they don’t even have keys fitted!

@Maxwell-8 That is the same mindset that replaces the soft shear pins on walk behind snowblowers with Grade 8 hardened bolts because they think it is a better fix... until they break the gearbox...

It is shocking to see what some people thiMk is a great idea. Sometimes it's fun to watch. Usually it's frightening .....

Here is a case of Neglect, I had to destroy the rim to get this off the axle:
