Brockport Bill 1,668 #1 Posted April 15, 2022 See photos ---- I have a seat with 2 missing hole anchor tabs on the back -- thus, no threads for seat bolts to screw into? The seat is in excellent condition but the seat is missing two of the 4 "female" anchor tabs. Does anyone know of a solution for this problem? thanks
lynnmor 7,307 #2 Posted April 15, 2022 Remove the upholstery and then spot weld in something like this. You could make them for an exact fit.
953 nut 55,298 #3 Posted April 15, 2022 You can probably find a solution here. https://www.google.com/search?q=cage+nut+u+clip+nut&rlz=1C1JZAP_enUS981US981&sxsrf=APq-WBttH5s48DdMSpT3XV_vJPjXTYbDiQ%3A1650022235257&ei=W1dZYs-wD5TK0PEP5b69sAQ&oq=caged+nut+U+clip&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAEYADIICCEQFhAdEB46BAgjECc6BAgAEEM6BwguENQCEEM6BwgAEEMQiwM6CgguENQCEEMQiwM6BwguEEMQiwM6CggAEMkDEEMQiwM6CggAELEDEEMQiwM6CAguEIAEELEDOggIABCABBCxAzoLCC4QgAQQsQMQiwM6BQgAEIAEOgsIABCABBCxAxCDAToGCAAQChBDOgsILhCABBCxAxDUAjoHCAAQsQMQQzoFCC4QgAQ6CwguEIAEENQCEIsDOggIABCABBCLAzoHCAAQChCLAzoOCC4QgAQQiwMQowMQqAM6BwgAEA0QiwM6CQgAEA0QChCLAzoGCAAQFhAeOggIABAWEAoQHjoFCAAQhgM6BQghEKABSgQIQRgASgQIRhgAUABY_Uxg-YEBaABwAXgAgAGPCogBomuSAQg1LTIuMTEuM5gBAKABAbgBAsABAQ&sclient=gws-wiz 2
peter lena 8,634 #4 Posted April 15, 2022 @Brockport Bill , agree with @953 nut on the slide in type of base nut , my local hardware store has , loads of pull out drawers , with that type of attachments. look around , with the what if , frame of mind , probably find just what you want , pete
peter lena 8,634 #5 Posted April 15, 2022 @Brockport Bill there is practically no problem that I encounter, that that don't look at from a number of angles , that regular mind set very often gives me a chance not only to correct the original problem , but too often enhance that . for those that have to have original , there is but one choice . having gone rogue many years ago , its just how I look at things , off the cliff , pete
roadapples 6,983 #6 Posted April 15, 2022 I use nutserts. They have different names but basically a pop rivet with threads...

roadapples 6,983 #8 Posted April 15, 2022 I've seen them in 3/8x16 but yeah those holes may be large...
Brockport Bill 1,668 #9 Posted April 15, 2022 been to 4 stores today -- inlcuding one "old time" hardware store -- no luck - the closest solution is a license plate plastic insert ( that pops into truck car tin/bumper etc) with expandable back/bottom side like a molly or toggle would expand when bolt/screw inserted????????? JoeM 7,874 #10 Posted April 15, 2022 Anyway to fish a carriage bolt from inside out, useing it like a stud?

I'm not sure that would hold the seat in place safely. The original nuts are probably still in there but the cover and padding will have to be removed to fix it properly. I have a nutsert tool but I don't think it will work with those square holes.
953 nut 55,298 #12 Posted April 16, 2022 If you cut a slot in the metal seat pan the correct size and distance from your existing square hole you can slide this type of fastener into the slot (nut side inside) and line it up to the hole. Auto parts stores carry them in a variety of sizes.
johnnymag3 2,520 #13 Posted April 16, 2022 Davies Hardware may have them....also I know Williams Lumber has a ton of that stuff.... I know Bill, both of them know where these stores are !!

Lee1977 6,664 #16 Posted April 16, 2022 I took one apart on a Gilson. The hardest part was the little metal clip that held the bindings together. Don't know if the foam is glued to the seat pan, it may be. If you have to take it apart finding another pan may be easer then fixing the one you have,

edgro 677 #19 Posted April 16, 2022 Weld in a flange nut. If you do one small weld at a time and immediately cool it with a spray of water, it shouldn't bother the foam too much. 3

lynnmor 7,307 #21 Posted April 16, 2022 I have removed and reinstalled cushions a number of time, none of mine were glued. Give it a try, it may be a piece of cake.
roadapples 6,983 #22 Posted April 16, 2022 I really think those cage nuts would work. Also can't tell by the picture which are missing. I've used only the 2 fronts. Don't have to worry about the seat tilting forward, only backwards....
