charger 10 carb issues

Recommended Posts

well guys ;now that I have the B-80 issue out of the way ; here is another hair puller as most know last year I did send a post  as far as my 10 horse Tecumseh that has issues starting ;winter came and everything that came with it gave me no choice but to let it sit ;so now it is time hopefully I can get the problem of it not wanting to start 'first of all most told me it was a carburetor problem so I went out and bought a brand new one at the cost of 95.00 ouch that hurt ; but that was not the issue 'as most know this 10 horse has the solid state ignition on it and during the test that I have done it has spark from the unit to the plug I have set the gap as according to the specs and still it will not start ;I did chat with the owner of A-Z and he told that it could be the key way which has worn or even moved ;no I have not removed the fly wheel which will be done though I did remove the nut but I really can't see in it as the hole is so small so I can not tell if the key is the issue ;using a small screw drive it went in about 3/8 so really I am not sure how long or how thick the key was is or what size it is again any thoughts would be appreciated  ;it is just odd that for the years that I have owned this it always started ;and yes I have checked the wiring which is alright

spark from the unit to the plug

Was this spark tea done with a spark tester?

Or laying the plug on the head?

Have you tried spraying gas or brake clean in the engine to see if it will fire over for a few seconds?

yes I have done everything and with the gas being sprayed in the carb it will only run on it  I even took the hard off and found 2 head gaskets which there should be only one but by removing one there is a leak in the head and yes even removing the plug and spraying  gas  in the plug hole still didn't work

Have you tried a new spark plug? They will fire on a visual test but not always under compression.

So it WILL run for a bit if gas is sprayed in the carb?

If you get a sprayer or squirt bottle of gasoline will this test continue to work over and over?

Have you had the head planed?

Or hand planed it yourself to get the head flat again?

heck even with the spray bottle and spinning the motor over takes the life out of the battery and no I haven't  had the head planed or even the time to do it here

A plug tester does NOT test plug condition. Change the plug and see what happens.

If she fires when you spray gas in the carb then you have a fuel problem not an ignition issue...

the thing is as I am about to give up on it as today I  put the shroud back on changed the plug to a new one ;checked the fuel pump to make sure that gas was going in and out of it ;I checked  the fuel bowel and gas poured out as well as the fuel pump going in and out and again it shot out as it should ;I did notice that the plug was dry as it should had been at least a little wet ;while turning the motor over and spraying gas in the carb that  did not help ;and yes before I replaced the shroud I did check the air gap again and according to the specks the long trigger pin is to be set at 06 the short trigger at 10 ;it is just odd even with the new carb it will not start and the last few years that  I had this it never gave me any issues ;again I am about ready to call it quits and sell it for parts or to fix as really I do not know where to go from here

odd that I have tried 3 different new plugs for this model and they did not help 'why is that it always the plug that is the issue 'again fuel is getting to the carb from the fuel line to the pump and out to the carb plus the fuel bowl has fuel in it when I drain it ;it might be the carb which I did have it rebuilt but did the shop do it right plus a brand new carb for this model it still won't start ;a few has told me that it could be the key way on the fly wheel so that is my next thing to do

the plug is not the issue here as I have bought 3 and it still will not fire up the next step as I have been told is the key way on the fly wheel
