Does anyone know what battery a 1988 252-H needs. I looked around and couldn’t really find an answer. Thanks

Did you have a battery in there and if so, what was it?  :occasion-xmas:

Toro are quite proud of their battery's and do not know how to determine the battery rating.

Looking at the diagram posted above, it looks like a common garden/lawn tractor battery.

      Hello everyone!

Thought I would post a new thread on this as I wasn't able to find the information I was looking for. But I'm trying to get this drive belt on my 252-H and no matter what I try I can't get it on. I got a 1/2" x 76" so I know its the correct size belt. I followed the steps outlined in the manual which I've attached, and is shown on page 15. So I loosened the cross bar nuts and the flat idler adjustment pulley. And followed the routing from this guide: http://outdoorpowerinfo.com/repairs/wheel_horse_hydro_252-h_drive_belt.asp

I just can't get enough slack on it to get it over the engine pulley! Right now it's pinched up between the body and the pulley so possibly I can't get enough leverage, do I need to somehow work it from below the pulley? Doesn't help the pulley keeps coming off the shaft so I have it propped up using a scissor jack which is cumbersome to work around. I don't have a shop or anyway I can think of to safely stand the mower up and not sure about tipping it on it's side. Anyone who has done this particular belt on this mower before have any tips or suggestions for how to get this thing on?

      Thanks for the help friends!

      Hey all!
New to the page so first, thank you for the add! I’ve been a Wheel Horse fan for over 20 years since my old neighbor and his grandfather got me hooked! After many years of searching, I finally got a hold of a real one! I did have a Toro-Wheel Horse….212-? It was a good machine but gave it to a friend for a back up. I picked up a 1988 , 252-H and it’s clean! A little rust but the red shines up nice! Everything is original. Belts, tires, bulbs….fuel line and filter have been replaced. I started cutting my lawn the day I brought it home and since my yard is a little hilly, thought maybe the sensor under the seat was the culprit for the stall but it seems to depend how warm it is out? I managed to cut the entire back yard today and just as I was pulling it into the shed, it sputtered and died. It fires right up and runs great when cold! Even seems fine after a while running but after reading a few posts, I might try to replace the spark plug. The one thing I did not check. This was an issue with a 20+ year old Echo weed wacker I had so I will try that. If anyone has any other ideas/info, I would appreciate it! Thank you and have a great evening!

I’m trying to restore my grandfathers old 252-H to use around my property. The tires are shot and the rims aren’t too far behind. Anyone have any recommendations for rims and tires that would fit well on it?

      right now it has 22 x 7.50 - 12 on the back and 15 x 6 - 6 on the front.

Started fine 2 weeks ago.  I left key in ignition and fear grandson may have turned it slightly to right a week ago.. not enough to engage starter but perhaps enough to drain battery.

Went to start it yesterday and no charge at all.  Started charging it and battery began to take charge.  However starter turned over but didnt turn engine over.

Question is do I just need more of a charge (more amps) or do I have another problem?

Lol, have 5 inches of snow headed here starting tonight so I need to get ahead of this today.

My cheap-o walmart U1 battery is starting to bite the dust again (barely able to crank it over fully charged, and ozzing everywhere) after 3 years on my 68' Raider and I am looking into a new battery for winter as I now have a plow setup. I was thinking of either getting the original 22NF battery that came with it or running a mazda mita battery which is a U1 size. Is the AGM worth the extra money over the 22nF even in the smaller size? I think the vibrations keep killing the cheapo batteries and I am trying to make sure I can leave it out in the cold and not have a problem starting in the winter. It does get down to 0F or below zero every once in a while. I don't think I want to go all the way to a 22nF AGM as it is $200.

      Thoughts?
