45to70 61 #1 Posted April 13, 2022 (edited) Trying to replace the oil seal on the starboard (gen side) of this K161. Have had no luck getting the castle nut off the shaft. It looks as though it's been on there since 1963. Have not been able to keep the shaft from rotating while trying to remove the nut and it's on there tight. Any suggestions welcome. Opps..........I meant the Port side............. Edited April 13, 2022 by 45to70

squonk 41,150 #3 Posted April 13, 2022 Are you talking the flywheel nut? You need an impact gun.
stevasaurus 22,764 #4 Posted April 13, 2022 I take a web strap, wrap it around the flywheel and take it to something around the frame...tighten it up good and that works.

If it is the flywheel nut... an impact would juuuuzerk it right off... Pictures would definitely be helpful... Don
45to70 61 #6 Posted April 13, 2022 Yes, the fly wheel nut. Don't have an impact gun but will get one if that's what it takes. Will try the web strap first though. Thanks to ALL! 1

953 nut 55,298 #8 Posted April 13, 2022 I have had good results using a 24" pipe wrench on the output shaft locking it onto the shaft and key so you don't damage the shaft. Let the pipe wrench rest on the frame of the tractor and use a piece of pipe for extra leverage on the socket breaker bar.

Then use a breaker-bar on the flywheel nut... Don
45to70 61 #10 Posted April 14, 2022 (edited) Thanks Folks, got it with the pipe wrench method, did not have a strong enough chunk of web for the job. No damage to the output shaft when done as 953 nut suggested. Missed having my little tractor running...............it does a lot of work around this place.
