312-8 vs 312-8 Classic Tractor

Recommended Posts

Hi All, Just picked up a 1991 312-8 Classic tractor for my wife. Is there any difference between the 312-8 and the 312-8 Classic or is it just a name added? Thanks in advance.

Mostly just an add to the name. 312s were made for most of the time 300, 400, 500 series of tractors. The “Classic” name was added later in the life span off the 312.

Early 312's had the K engines (points & coil).  They changed over to the Magnum engines in 1987.  I think all of the Classic 312's had the Magnum engines.

Most of the "Classic" models that I've seen have had the 15hp Kohler Command engines.

Model 73450 was sold 2002-2004 as a 315-8

Model 73450 was sold 2005 and 2007 as a GT Classic

This is a 1991 3112K802. Classic name was probably just added to spice it up.

Either way, it’s another Horse in your shed and dedicating it for your wife keeps her involved.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

Probably a marketing term to let faithful Wheel Horse purchasers know that Toro hadn't cheapened the brand and it was as strong as the brand had been for decades.

That's the impression I was under as well.

Yes, she's a good woman putting up with me and my Wheel Horse obsession for 37 years now. Here's a couple of pictures of her pride and joy.
