Rob J. 1,942 #1 Posted April 8, 2022 I’m sure this is done all the time but my attempt to brighten up the bucket. I used aluminum pipe tape. Have some 6000 lumen LED’s going in. Should be bright. 4
WHX?? 48,828 #2 Posted April 8, 2022 (edited) @Achto just did a resto on one and used a chrome plating paint of sorts on it. Post 158 I tried polishing one once but didn’t have the right tool to get in there for a shine finnish. Edited April 8, 2022 by WHX??

If they really are 6000lumens, that would draw around 600w from the electrical system and would be generating a lot of heat.

So about 4 amps. But if it is only a 3 amp charging circuit, it will be a net drain on the battery. Edited April 9, 2022 by Handy Don

Should be good 👍👍

Since one can't really read resistance on them and plug that into Ohm's law the only way to know is actually measure the amp draw. They really do throw a monkey wrench at Mr Ohm since there is no way that I know of to convert lumens to amps. Remember they are rated in EQUIVELENT watts so the rated wattage is useless as far as using it in math. You ever got nothing better to do @squonk bust out yer Fluke and see what yours draw.

Lee1977 6,664 #13 Posted April 9, 2022 (edited) From what I can find I don't think any of the 1156 led blubs pull as much as 1 amp. I found one that was .0.58 amp. calming 6500 K. Edited April 9, 2022 by Lee1977
Horse Newbie 7,074 #14 Posted April 9, 2022 (edited) Maybe @Rob J. meant to say 6000k… is that the same as 6000 lumens ? I am putting these in my 1984 Work Horse GT-1600 which I believe charges at about 3-4 amps… Will they be okay ? Hope I’m not highjacking this thread… BTW, what does that actually mean ? If you can trust the label, it claims 9w power consumption per lamp. Mr. Ohm says W ÷ V = A. So 9 ÷ 12 = .67 amps each. So less than 1.4 amps together. If the only other loads are charging the battery and running the tractor, you will be just fine. BTW: - lumens is a measure of brightness or total quantity of light energy in the visible spectrum (i.e. light humans can see) - K is a measure of the color of the light (6000K is a very white light with a tinge of blue, lower numbers have more yellow) Enjoy! Kenneth R Cluley 527 #16 Posted April 9, 2022 Didn't they used to rate output by Candlepower or some sort of rating related to how many candles would generate that much light? (example of hi-jacking) 1
Kenneth R Cluley 527 #17 Posted April 9, 2022 Candlepower x 12.57 = Lumens.

I use these bulbs now. Nice and bright and my meter shows they draw a tenth of an amp. I had the tractor at the Steam Pageant and a guy comes up to me and tells me the lights kept turning on an off all night by themselves. (problem with the rocker switch) and the battery would still start the tractor without charging it. They are rated at 1.7 watts. $28 for the 2 Edited April 9, 2022 by squonk 3
Rob J. 1,942 #20 Posted April 9, 2022 Sorry yes 6000k white light. Geez don’t make a mistake on this site. But yeah thanks for correcting me.

Actually, 6000 lumens is feasible. A medium-sized ATV or off-road vehicle lightbar will throw that much light and I've got one only slightly smaller on one of our tractors! The package stated 900lm (luminous flux?) in excruciating fine print!

You need to be able to cool that. their are a lot of false claims on those led bars concerning output. I have one of those, claimed 150w, 10000lumens, yet my Olight 1000 lumen handheld flashlight is equally bright.

kpinnc 12,083 #25 Posted April 10, 2022 I used chrome tape in my FILs Charger, with LEDs. Worked great! Makes you wonder what the old incandescent lights were even for, because they are about 1/4 as bright as LEDs.
