Dominator 68 #1 Posted April 8, 2022 Hello all, once again, hope this is the right place. Removed the seat and gas tank assembly and bracket. 2 bolts hold it down to the transmission. There were no lock washers. Schematics don’t show any. My question is, what keeps the oil from leaking past these? Would it hurt to install a lock washer? The bolts are not serrated underneath. Just trying to do it right. All help is appreciated, Dominator
Lee1977 6,774 #2 Posted April 8, 2022 If you keep the top side up they don't leak. I have had a Wheel Horse for 45 years and that has never been a problem.
Handy Don 12,444 #3 Posted April 8, 2022 I would not add lock washers of any kind. A thin flat washer? Maybe if only to keep the bolt head from gouging.

cleat 6,324 #5 Posted April 8, 2022 I put a little thread sealant on the bolts. I use liquid Teflon. Not Teflon tape as don't want to risk any falling into the transmission.
peter lena 8,720 #6 Posted April 8, 2022 @Dominator often use FENDER WASHERS in sheet metal areas , giving you a much larger mounting securement spot , don't even think about making an improvement , just do it . pete
lynnmor 7,352 #7 Posted April 8, 2022 Some bolts on top of the transmission do leak. Instead of oil leaking up, water can leak down into the transmission, especially when stored outside or pressure washed. A bit of sealant on those bolts is a good idea.
