TBH I don't know.

My headlights are always on so it makes no difference to me.

I hit the horn while the light is still red - off he goes into cross traffic - he drops the phone and just about soils himself - lesson completed - no more texting.

We were in a line of traffic at a red light, two cars ahead of us made right turns and we moved forward to the light and stopped as the light was still red. The young girl driving the car behind us was texting and glanced up then floored it when she noticed we had moved. About fifty feet later she totaled her car when it encountered our Reese hitch. When the police arrived she was still texting, police officer asked if I could pull of to the side of the road, told him I would ruin her car if I did that. He took a couple of pictures and said it was already a total anyway. As I drove forward I was towing her car too. The policeman had a sledgehammer in his trunk and beat on her hood until it cleared our hitch.

Connecticut law states headlights on in any precipitation that requires use of wipers. Using the wipers to clear your windshield when using the washer fluid is not considered precipitation.
I always “obey”, but I don’t know anyone that has been ticketed for it either.

My car has auto headlights but I don’t use that option, prefer to turn on/off when I want. Pickup does not have the auto headlight feature.

A couple years obe of the kids on the robotics team was installing a sterio system in his Ford Probe.  One of his modifications was a bigger alternator.  This led to an upgrade for the sterio.  That in turn led to the installation of a second alternator.

One night during dinner break, he and several other kids piled into the car to enjoy the stereo.  As I walked by the car, I noticed that he windows were shaking in their seals.

Later that night I asked the owner of the car if he was afraid that his stereo was going to shake that old Ford to pieces.

The point is that the texting guy is not in control of his car. He is so conditioned to having others tell him to go.

I was trying to tell him that the light was about to change !!

It is humorous in a way...  if true, I wonder how you would have felt if someone was hurt, or killed?  Would that have been his fault, or yours?

Smart move Sparky... two of my three trucks have auto headlights which I use. Third does not and a dark rainy day figured it be best with them on. Ran into HF and got so accustomed to having autos forgot to turn them off. Yep ran the battery down and needed a jump..... :hide:

Same here.   It takes 10 minutes for mine to turn off in auto  mode.    Why drain the battery for 10 minutes several times a day.

Jeff - that kid was an accident just waiting to happen. The first 2 times, I watched him as I blew the horn. He hears the horn and GOES - his head is still down halfway thru the intersection and NEVER looks to the sides - God must be his copilot. And, yes, HE would be in the wrong - MA has outlawed the use of handheld cell phones while driving. I would be the first to pull over if anything happened to give my account to the Police.

Why blowing a horn to “stimulate” action on another drivers part may be seen one way to one guy and another way to a different guy, I feel it’s like this…

Even if someone behind you blows the horn, you are still responsible for the safe operation of your vehicle…

When I first started driving someone was giving me directions on where to go…

they said “Go straight through this light”… well I did, and it was redder than our Horses.

They meant stop for the light, then go straight…

I heard “Go straight through this light.”

Luckily the intersection was clear…

scared the H$LL out of them, and I didn’t even realize I had done it until we were through the intersection !

Handy Don

I remember the time I went sailing through a red light--an old style on a post beside the road partly obscured by tree branches. No excuse, of course, but I was awful glad I did't cause or be part of a crash. Had me shook for the rest of the day.

What you say is true of course, but when one is apparently fully aware that his action will cause an adverse reaction, and could in fact cause bodily harm or property damage, it could be seen as 'reckless endangerment'.

Just my opinion, and let's end the discussion.
