of amazing,

Looked at the morning weather on the news and they had started the segment with a car avitar that had the wipers and headlights coming on.

Question, does the weatherman have to inform people they will have to turn on their wipers and headlights if it is raining in the dark!

If so we need those self driving cars now!

Back up camera's are now standard on new cars, Auto headlight's are quite common, Auto wipers are an option on a lot of cars. Self driving is not too far away.:(

Joe, congratulations!  You have discovered a new idea called uncommon sense!  Doesn’t it feel good to be in the 1 percenters club?

I wish someone had told Mrs K.        She was cited and fined $135 for failure to turn on her headlights when she pulled out of a parking lot with the wipers on.

It is the law here in RI, but very seldom enforced.

I generally toss the lights on rain or shine, day or night.  My 99 and ‘01 daily drivers have a light sensor on the dash for the daytime running lights.  I thought about paint matching a bottle cap to the dash and gluing it in place!

Any vehicle in any weight class that is hauling placardable hazmat has to have their headlights on.

Because of hauling oil in years past I've gotten into the habit of turning on my headlights before I even turn the engine on in my big trucks.

Here in Maine it is a law that the headlights must be on anytime the wipers are in use.

Same here in NY. Intermittent enforcement. Fortunately for me both cars have quite sensitive auto-on headlight sensors. They switch from DRLs to headlights even on cloudy days or under a long underpass!

If i had a dollar for every car I see coming at me at dusk WITHOUT their lights on and I flash my lights at them to tell them to turn those stinkin lights on so people can see you, and they DO NOT TURN THEM ON, I'd have enough money to pay for Wednesday night's dinner!

I do understand safety, and routinely drive with my lights on, but really… the “lights on when wipers are on laws” are indicative of how ridiculous we’ve gotten with regulating common sense.

On a clear sunny day if I am driving and decide to clean my window of bugs or dirt using my wipers I can be ticketed in many states if I don’t put my lights on.

Nonsense.

OK. Now I’m going to get off my soap box and read the warning labels so I don’t microwave a wet pet to dry it off, put a plastic bag over my head, put my nephew in the dryer after he jumps in mud puddles…etc. etc. etc. :angry-banghead:

Same in Maryland. We also have a law that says that any music (and I say that cautiously) that emanates from the inside of a vehicle with it's windows closed, should not be able to be heard at 50ft. I hear some from a mile away. Never see anyone following that law either.

Cleaning up the oven afterward is a bit time consuming, too.

2 related stories.

First I was working at a Chrysler dealer. Shop was a converted bus garage with the big honkin windows with many panes of glass. During lunch one of the wash rack guys had a buddy visit one day. He parked right out side the window above my bench. The music was so loud the glass was moving!

2nd story: Working at Napa. Kid comes in and wants to know the best product to seal his rear window on his hatchback. I say let me look at what you got going on. We go out and his car is running . Stereo is cranked and there is a big honkin sub-woofer in the back. Every base note is lifting the glass right out of the hatch!

Third offense about four blocks later, I hit the horn while the light is still red - off he goes into cross traffic…

Some may find this harsh, others entertaining ....

I can’t help but wonder if the cross traffic found this entertaining.
