rectifier diode

Do I still need to use a diode, if I use a voltage regulator rectifier?

A question for different machines, as well as my C175

Voltage regulator contains the diodes but it does require a decent 12v battery being connected for the regulation to work properly.

The rectifier in a reg/rec is what changes the voltage from AC to DC.

Thanks, didn't want to blow up a battery like the previous owner of my C175 did.

So... I have an L157? / mid 60's lawn Ranger with a H60 6hp Tecumseh motor.  The basic electrical system appears to be comprised of two diodes and 1 fuse, mounted on the side of the jug.  This cover is a white plastic cover.  I have no spark or anything... and wondered if this is worn out and possibly replaceable with a modern rectifier.

@Copper116 if you want to give up electric start and just have rope start you can install a solid state device. I have one in the shop and can get the info tomorrow. You should start a new thread with your questions to get more people to see it.

That panel has nothing to do with the ignition. It only rectifies the AC charge current to DC to charge the battery.

Try cleaning the ignition points. The ignition is self-powered and the single ignition wire shuts the ignition OFF when it is grounded to the chassis.

Your ignition components live behind the flywheel. Take a look at this Service Manual and let us know how you are doing with it.
