johnnymag3 2,554 #1 Posted April 2, 2022 Have a dilemma...M18 has manual pulley on it...need to put my larger Hydro pulley on it..from my M18......doing an engine change... Does not appear to have an allen in the hole / holes to remove.....How should I go about this swap? How do you remove the pulley??? I have several pullers, but want to do it the right way. I need to get the bigger pulley on the replacement engine.... RAY...any ideas? Thanks, John

squonk 41,779 #5 Posted April 2, 2022 Harmonic balancer puller is what you need. Also known as a bolt grip puller.
johnnymag3 2,554 #6 Posted April 2, 2022 I have 3 of them .... several sizes...but........whats the deal with no allen screw in either hole on the pulley Squonkster???
953 nut 56,493 #7 Posted April 2, 2022 (edited) Looks like an Allen Head set screw in that hole. Take a piece of wire and confirm that the depth of the hole is the same as the pulley at that area. Edited April 2, 2022 by 953 nut
johnnymag3 2,554 #8 Posted April 3, 2022 I put an allen wrench in...and there is no screw. The depth matched internally as the same to the outside...could the mark we are seeing be the end result of the screw base that was in there?

Normally the key in the slot is held by the pulley set screw. Maybe the set screw was driven with no key in place . Place a load on it with the puller and see if the pulley moves.
squonk 41,779 #10 Posted April 3, 2022 Is the key even in the slot? I don't see it. I have pulled pulleys with the set screw key and all off of shafts before when the allen screw hex is damaged. Just need a good puller, new bolts and some thick washers for extra strength. Toss a puller on that pulley and see if it moves.
