Bought it from a buddy his grandfather passed away before he could finish the 417. Engine supposedly runs.

Got thinking about the diesel conversion.

Have you done that on a hydro? You really can't gear those up or down any to gain speed.

Another serious consideration would be the amount of torque that the transmission is capable of absorbing.

Keep me posted on what you do with that engine please.

I still have that little military one here for you too.

Pullstart

I’d say get it running for a full on diagnosis before tearing it down… but either way what a score!

I have about 5 or 6 Diesel engines just sitting around and I think it’s time to put one on a tractor again

I think that you are absolutely correct!! :thumbs2:

I sure like my diesel powered tractor. Tons of power & runs forever on a cup of fuel. I would not worry too much about the tranny, plenty of other manufacturers put diesels in their tractors behind the same transmission that they used on their gas tractors. The Eaton 1100 should hold up just fine.

:text-coolphotos:                               Nice load!

A few things caught my eye on the 416. Seems like the rear rims are not as wide as they aught to be, are turned inward and what is the story on those wheel weights?          :confusion-scratchheadyellow:

The deck looks like it came from a vertical shaft :wh:, is it operable like that?

Also, got to ask,      :confusion-confused:    What the heck is that yellow bar sticking up at the rear?     Is it a lightning rod?     :scared-shocked:

WHX??

Does look like a vert deck 'Nut and someone would have to have done some connoitering to make it work & older rims.  I missed the lightning rod thing and lovin the seat! Seat on the 417 looks the price of admission tho.

I was thinking the same.

That particular case it looks like Ben bought a seat and got a free tractor with it.

Looks like lightning stuck the 416 and blew off the rear pan lights and went through the seat!

Front tires are 6's and the rears look like cub rim / tire set up with the valve stem on the outside???

Lots of good stuff and fixable for sure.

I believe that's a 700 in the A's. Use the 1100 out of the other tractor and make it a 417-H.

That's if it's a 300 series Lee. The two tractors I have here I'm combining into one, for another member, are 1986 417A.  They both have 1100s.

Another fine example of Wheel Horse breaking thier own rules.

312-A, 516-H, 518-H: Eaton 700.

417-A, 416-H, 520-H: Eaton 1100.

Many others exist. :confusion-scratchheadyellow:

That’s a 37” side discharge deck.  it’s made for the C/300/400 tractors.  Uses a single hexagonal cross section belt that wraps around the PTO pulley, through the idler, and around both spindles.

Some of the 1990-ish tractors came with 6” front rims to accommodate that deck. I think they might have had 22” diameter rear tires too.   The deck is arranged sort of diagonally in there so the blades overlap and it makes it quite long from front to back.  So bigger tires would interfere.

the rear tires and wheels are obviously from something else.

It’s the same shell used on a bunch of vertical shaft tractors.

it’s a great cutting deck compared to the three blade 48 and especially 42 incher which are pretty lousy in comparison.

Some 37” SD decks use a regular V-belt. When this is done there has to be flat idlers on the deck and on one side of the mule drive. The 6 sided belt driven 37” SD has all ‘v grooved’ pulleys.

They plowed with it on sidewalks. That pole is for a beacon. The weights are a classic style my pulling club use to use. They are solid lead!
